The overall function of this position is to be responsible for all sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on all state highways in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) in six parishes in District 58.

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current Class D Chauffeur's License.

Job Duties:

  • Performs all sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on all State highways in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This includes highway signing, construction signing, road closure, barricades, warning, and other permanent and temporary signing.

  • Determines exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders with established regulations.

  • May perform installations, replacement and maintenance of all pavement markings on all state highways in accordance with the MUTCD. This includes stop bars, arrows, legends, and other pavement markers.

  • Determines the exact placement requirements for pavement markers as per the department’s policy and specific guidelines. Cleans signs and performs discriminative tree and limb cutting to clear obscured signs.

  • Maintains electronic daily work reports (including GPS readings of sign locations), material used reports, truck inventory.

  • Maintains, transports, and programs changeable/portable message boards as needed. Operates and maintains all equipment including sign truck, small tools (to include but not limited to: gas powered post driver and auger) etc., to perform duties.

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a District Sign Specialist 1 or 2.

Work Schedule:Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.

Compensation:

District Sign Specialist 1: $17.18/hr
District Sign Specialist 2:
$19.67/hr

Necessary special requirement: A current Class D Chauffeur's License will be required upon appointment.
