Job Title: Distribution Designer

Job Description

The role of Distribution Designer involves acquiring a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices. The position requires a broad understanding of engineering disciplines, including design and constructability as applied to construction methods and materials, along with the economics involved. The role involves maintaining production and quality of projects, including managing field data, photographs, engineering analysis, reports, various departmental reports and databases as per departmental guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, graphs, and construction drawing packages.
  • Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits.
  • Perform field data collection using laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS, and other electronic devices to collect data for input into database software as necessary.
  • Develop a working knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.
  • Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, and inspect and maintain pad-mount equipment.
  • Present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations, communicate well in writing, and utilize proper ethics with email and telephone communications.
  • Keep supervisors and coworkers informed by sharing complete and accurate information with others.
  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization and with outside clients and agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with distribution drafting/design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation or similar drafting software.
  • Knowledge of distribution design, power distribution, MicroStation, drafting, power delivery, utility design, and distribution engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • An Associate's Degree minimum is preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of CAD software.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Possession of a reliable vehicle and the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

Work Environment

This position begins with a remote work setup, requiring field visits approximately 25% of the time. There are plans to establish an office in the Greater Allentown Area, after which the role will transition to a hybrid schedule.

This is a Contract position based out of Lancaster, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $43.00/hr.
