About the Opportunity
We’ve partnered with a multi-site community health system in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to find their next Director of Patient Financial Services. This is a high-impact revenue cycle leadership role with system-wide scope, an active EPIC implementation underway, and direct visibility to senior leadership.
If you’re an experienced revenue cycle leader — or a strong PFS manager at a large system ready to step into the director seat — this is one of the most substantive PFS opportunities in the region right now.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Active EPIC implementation with hospital go-live planned for May 2027 — you’ll play a central role in shaping how the revenue cycle runs going forward
- Heavy investment in AI and automation — organization-wide adoption of Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude, with leadership pushing the team to use modern tools
- Engaged with Premier on a hospital-wide performance assessment
- Open-door leadership culture — monthly rounding with staff, twice-yearly Gallup employee engagement surveys (March and August)
- Quarterly success-share program — employees participate financially when the hospital performs
The Role
As Director of PFS, you’ll direct and manage all aspects of centralized billing, collection, and cash management across the full system — the acute-care hospital, the physician group, the rehab hospital, and the reference lab. You’ll lead a team of 5 direct reports and their teams across both the Hospital CBO and the Clinic CBO.
This is a strategic role with real operational ownership. You’ll set the cash collection strategy, design and monitor A/R management indicators, drive performance improvement, and serve as a key partner to the Director of Revenue Cycle and broader leadership team.
What You’ll Own
- Strategic planning, direction, and overall accountability for the centralized PFS function across all system entities
- Department budget development, fiscal management, and operational reporting
- Internal control systems, policies, and procedures that drive cash collection performance
- Daily A/R management — monitoring indicators, analyzing trends, and developing monitoring tools
- Leadership of 5 direct reports across Hospital CBO (government follow-up, commercial/managed care, cash posting, billing) and Clinic CBO
- Active participation in the EPIC implementation and ongoing system optimization
- Performance improvement, staff development, and regulatory compliance across all PFS functions
What You’ll Bring
- 5–7 years of progressive healthcare revenue cycle management experience
- EPIC revenue cycle management experience required, including implementation
- EPIC PB and HB certifications required
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
- Proven track record at a hospital or large multi-disciplinary clinic system (consulting-only background is not a fit for this role)
- Advanced Excel and analytical capability — this is a data-driven role
- Comfort with modern AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) and a tech-forward mindset
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across a range of personalities and leadership styles
Note: Strong PFS managers at large multi-site health systems are encouraged to apply — enterprise PFS experience is more valuable for this role than director-level experience at a small or rural hospital.
The Details
- Compensation: $100,000–$155,000 based on experience
- Location: Baton Rouge, LA — onsite required (not hybrid, not remote)
- Scope: Centralized billing, collections, and cash management across the hospital, physician group, rehab hospital, and reference lab
- Team: 5 direct reports and their teams
- Priority: High-urgency hire with EPIC go-live and active organizational assessment in motion
