Role Description

The Director of Nursing will oversee all nursing operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to residents and maintaining compliance with relevant standards. Responsibilities include managing nursing staff, implementing and monitoring infection control protocols, and coordinating medical care plans. This is a full-time on-site position based in Clarkston, MI.

Pay: $103,000.00 - $121,000.00 per year

SALARY, FULL TIME, 80 HOURS BI-WEEKLY


JOB SUMMARY:

Directs all administrative areas of the Colombiere Center Jesuit Health Care Department impacted by nursing/patient care activities consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the Society of Jesus.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Other duties may be assigned)

1. Develops and monitors annual Health Care Department goals and objectives following the mission of the Colombiere Jesuit Health Care Center.

2. Establishes and implements the Health Care Department budget and operates the department within the established budget.

3. Follows standard of care in nursing practice by following established policies and creates updates and reviews department policies and procedures.

4. Establishes and oversees method of resident acuity assessment to determine appropriate staffing ratios.

5. Responsible to work as a Nurse or Nurse Aide when minimum staffing level cannot be met.

6. Selects, manages, schedules and evaluates department staff (either directly or through subordinate staff.) Director is responsible for evaluating the Charge Nurses, Physical Therapist, Activities Coordinator as well as others in the absence of subordinate staff.

7. Participates in committee meetings affecting overall operations of Colombiere Center and conducts departmental meetings.

8. Attends educational programs to remain knowledgeable of current issues/methods in nursing administration and the practice of geriatric nursing.

9. Facilitates continuing education and professional development of the health care staff so that they can remain current in the health care trends of the geriatric male population.

10. Ensures that excellent health care is provided while maintaining the integrity of a Jesuit Community. Including accompanying Jesuits to some appointments and hospital visits.

11. Collaborates with the Superior of the Jesuit Community in all aspects of the care of the Jesuits living at Colombiere. Also regularly consults the Provincial Assistant for Province Health Care.

12. Involves the Jesuit Superior in major changes in the health of a Jesuit and in decisions regarding treatment, including but not limited to end-of-life care.

13. Coordinates a smooth transition when a Jesuit moves to Colombiere by coordinating care with the sending Superior, area health care coordinator, and Colombiere staff.

14. Conducts regular meetings and consults with the in-house physician regarding the residents’ healthcare needs and facilitates MD collaboration with all licensed nursing staff.

15. Conducts interdisciplinary team meetings.

16. Shadows various staff members periodically in order to fully understand all aspects of their job.

17. Evaluates equipment, ancillary services and supply needs and obtains competitive vendor bids before making final recommendations to the Administrator.

18. Oversees clinical contracted services such as hospice, laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy, diagnostic services, etc.

19. Facilitates or provides medication administration education ensuring that policies and procedures for safe medication distribution are accomplished.

20. Maintains a visible presence in the community with the goal of establishing trust and becoming familiar with each Jesuit in order to provide for the individual needs of the men.

21. Assists as needed with updating each Jesuit’s Advance Directive on admission and regularly thereafter, in collaboration with the Superior and spiritual team. Assist each Jesuit to revisit his desires when difficult health care decisions need to be made.

22. Performs other duties as may be requested by the Administrator or Superior.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS [Education/Skills/Abilities]:

1. Graduate from an accredited B.S.N. school of nursing.

2. Possesses valid State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.

3. Possesses minimum three to five year’s experience in nursing management position with emphasis in long-term care. Prefer some experience in acute care.

4. Possesses minimum three to five year’s experience in memory care or managing a memory care unit.

5. Possesses exceptional interpersonal, communication and supervisory/management skills.

6. Possesses excellent clinical nursing and physical assessment skills.

7. Knowledge of operation and utilization of health care equipment and supplies.

8. Ability to collaborate with all co-workers and be a part of a team whose goal is to assist a group of religious men, as their energy declines, to continue to live as a Jesuit in service to the Church and Society.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Works regular eight-hour shift, usually Monday through Friday; may be required to work longer hours and some weekends and/or be on call.

2. Frequently deals with stresses associated with a patient-care work environment.

3. Able to adjust to numerous interruptions.

4. High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively, tactfully, and diplomatically with others; displays willingness and ability to work with the public, Jesuit Community, Managers and staff and patience to handle and be attentive to minor details.
