With a fleet of 16 aircraft and a team of 23 experienced instructors, we are continuing to grow and are seeking a highly motivated Director of Maintenance to lead and manage all maintenance operations.
Position Overview
The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of aircraft maintenance operations, ensuring fleet safety, regulatory compliance, and maximum aircraft availability. This role provides leadership to the maintenance team while managing maintenance programs, budgets, and vendor relationships in support of flight operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of A&P mechanics and maintenance personnel.
- Establish maintenance priorities aligned with flight training schedules and operational needs.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with FAA regulations, including Part 43, Part 91, and applicable guidance.
- Maintain aircraft airworthiness through proper documentation, logbook entries, and inspections.
- Exercise Inspection Authorization (IA) privileges for inspections and return-to-service approvals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for FAA audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries.
Maintenance Program Management
- Develop and manage scheduled maintenance programs, including 100-hour, annual, and progressive inspections.
- Oversee maintenance tracking systems and ensure accurate and up-to-date recordkeeping.
- Manage deferred maintenance items and ensure timely resolution.
- Coordinate and/or perform major repairs, alterations, and engine overhauls in accordance with manufacturer specifications (Piper Archer, Piper Seminole, and Diamond aircraft).
Fleet Readiness & Operational Support
- Ensure maximum aircraft availability to meet training demands.
- Collaborate closely with flight operations to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
- Diagnose and resolve aircraft discrepancies, including mechanical, avionics, and engine-related issues.
Budgeting & Inventory Management
- Manage maintenance budgets, forecasting, and cost controls.
- Oversee parts procurement, inventory levels, and vendor relationships, including OEM supply chains.
- Identify cost-effective solutions while maintaining safety and compliance standards.
Qualifications
Required
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License.
- Minimum of 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience.
- At least 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a maintenance environment.
Preferred
- Current Inspection Authorization (IA).
- Experience performing or overseeing engine rebuilds and overhauls.
- Experience working with Piper Archer, Piper Seminole, and/or Diamond aircraft.
- Background in a flight school or high-utilization fleet environment.
- Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems and digital logbooks.
Core Competencies
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and compliance requirements.
- Advanced mechanical expertise, particularly with piston engine systems.
