Randon Aviation is a Part 61 flight school dedicated to helping students achieve their aviation ambitions, whether pursuing a Private Pilot License (PPL) or building a career in commercial or corporate aviation. We offer flexible, customized training programs designed to fit real-life commitments. Many of our graduates continue as instructors, gaining valuable experience as they build hours toward professional opportunities with our industry partners.

With locations at South Valley Regional Airport in West Jordan and St. George Regional Airport, we operate a fleet of 16 aircraft consisting of Piper Archer, Piper Seminole, and Diamond aircraft, supported by a team of 23 highly qualified instructors. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Maintenance to lead and oversee all aspects of our maintenance operations.


Position Overview

The Director of Maintenance (DOM) is responsible for the overall management, compliance, and operational readiness of Randon Aviation’s fleet. This leadership role ensures all aircraft are maintained in accordance with FAA regulations and company standards while supporting safe, efficient, and reliable flight training operations.

The DOM will oversee maintenance personnel, manage inspection programs, control maintenance scheduling, and ensure proper documentation and regulatory compliance. This role also includes oversight and performance of advanced maintenance activities, including engine rebuilds and major repairs, ensuring all work meets applicable FAA and manufacturer standards across our Piper and Diamond fleet. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented leader with strong technical expertise and a commitment to safety, organization, and team development.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead, supervise, and develop the maintenance team, including A&P mechanics and support personnel
  • Establish maintenance priorities aligned with flight operations and training schedules
  • Foster a safety-first culture and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all maintenance operations comply with FAA regulations (Part 43, Part 91, and applicable guidance)
  • Maintain aircraft airworthiness and ensure proper logbook entries and documentation
  • Exercise Inspection Authorization (IA) privileges for inspections and return-to-service approvals
  • Act as the primary point of contact for FAA audits, inspections, and inquiries

Maintenance Program Management

  • Develop and manage scheduled maintenance programs (100-hour, annual, and progressive inspections)
  • Oversee maintenance tracking systems and ensure accurate recordkeeping
  • Manage deferred maintenance items and ensure timely resolution
  • Coordinate and/or perform major repairs, alterations, and engine rebuilds/overhauls in accordance with manufacturer specifications for Piper Archer, Piper Seminole, and Diamond aircraft

Fleet Readiness & Operations Support

  • Ensure maximum aircraft availability to support training demand
  • Coordinate closely with flight operations to minimize downtime
  • Troubleshoot and resolve aircraft discrepancies efficiently, including complex mechanical, avionics, and engine-related issues specific to Piper and Diamond platforms

Budgeting & Inventory

  • Manage maintenance budgets, forecasting, and cost controls
  • Oversee parts procurement, inventory management, and vendor relationships, including Piper and Diamond parts supply chains
  • Evaluate cost-effective solutions without compromising safety or compliance


Qualifications

Required:

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License
  • Minimum of 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership, supervisory, or lead mechanic role

Preferred:

  • Inspection Authorization (IA) – Required and current
  • Experience performing or overseeing engine rebuilds/overhauls
  • Experience maintaining Piper Archer, Piper Seminole, and/or Diamond aircraft
  • Experience in a flight school or high-utilization fleet environment
  • Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems and digital logbooks

Core Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and compliance requirements
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude, including piston engine systems and overhaul practices
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and typical hangar environments
