The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.

This position is located at Black Bear Golf Course, in Delhi, LA. The purpose of this unclassified position is to oversee all aspects of the Black Bear Golf Course operations including the golf shop, turf care operations, and record keeping staff. The director supervises and directs the operation, management, and maintenance of the Black Bear Golf Course. Class A Member of the PGA
Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, public officials, and the general public.
Knowledge of current trends in the golf industry and recreational golfing market, including spending patterns.
Knowledge of turf grass maintenance and other factors t hat impact a golf course's playability.
Knowledge of formats and operational/support requirements for golf tournaments and events.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards, management, and safety controls.

Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience as head golf professional.
Unclassified Position - Salary dependent upon experience

Job Duties:

  • Manages the operations and staff of the Black Bear Golf Course and assigns responsibility for activities of the Department.

  • Supervises and administers the overall functions of the golf course.

  • Manages contracts associated with facility operations.

  • Manages Grounds Superintendent to coordinate turf-care practices and course closures along with tournament set-ups.

  • Sets and organizes tournament operations for the golf course.

  • Coordinates golf clinics with golf course staff.

  • Coordinates tournaments and education classes; promotes interest in the use of golf course facilities.

  • Supervises and participates in the propagation of grass and other plants.

  • Oversees purchases for golf course including resale golf shop items.

  • Maintains Class A membership with the PGA.

  • Trains and supervises golf shop staff on daily operations.

Location:Black Bear Golf Course in Delhi, LA
Appointment Type:Unclassified Fulltime Position
Work Schedule: Black Bear Golf Course is open from 7:30am-6:30pm Tues.-Sun. from March-October, and from 7:30am-5:30pm Tues.-Sun. from November-March. This position will work a flex schedule as needed depending on tournaments, events, staffing needs, etc. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week, which can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.
Travel:Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. Travel may be required to other state parks to assist in staffing or events, as needed. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
