About Miracle Babies
Miracle Babies supports families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through transportation, mental health services, and family-centered programs across San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles. We are growing, new hospital partnerships, regional expansion, and a proven community behind us, and we need a fundraising leader to build the financial engine that takes us there.
The Role
This is a newly created senior position responsible for leading Miracle Babies through a deliberate shift: from an event-driven revenue model to a diversified, partnership-based funding structure that can sustain and accelerate our mission through 2028 and into a nationwide presence by 2029. You will own strategy through execution, with direct access to the Executive Director and Board.
Primary Goal
Design and execute a multi-year fundraising strategy that achieves $866,750 in total revenue in 2026, with at least 60% anchored in renewable, partnership-based sources by year-end. Key targets include $100,000 in new hospital partnership revenue, $150,000 in grants, and $191,200 in individual giving, while reducing dependence on event revenue over time.
What You’ll Own
- Hospital partnership development: building and closing contracts with hospital systems in San Diego, Orange County, and Riverside County.
- Grant writing and foundation pipeline, targeting $150K in 2026 with a growth trajectory through 2028.
- Individual donor portfolio management: segmented stewardship, mid-level donor cultivation, and disciplined upgrade strategy.
- All fundraising events, managed for net contribution: Superhero 5K (May, San Diego), Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and a new Orange County Night launch.
- Neon CRM ownership: full adoption, donor segmentation, and integration with hospital partner reporting.
- Quarterly board scorecards with KPIs, variance analysis, and forward projections.
- Regional Advisory Council launch in Orange County and Riverside County by Q4 2026.
What We’re Looking For
We’re hiring for track record, not credentials. The strongest candidates will have:
- Built or significantly rebuilt a development function, not just inherited one.
- Closed institutional partnerships, hospital contracts, or major grants of $100K or more.
- Managed a donor portfolio and measurably improved retention or average gift size.
- Run fundraising events that generated six-figure net revenue.
- Operated effectively in a lean environment, owning work end-to-end.
- Worked with diverse, underserved, or crisis-navigating communities with cultural humility.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5–7+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience required. CFRE and/or healthcare or hospital partnership experience is a meaningful advantage, but if your track record is strong and your path is nontraditional, we still want to hear from you!
Why This Role
- Direct access to the Executive Director and Board: real influence over organizational strategy.
- A mission with genuine stakes: the families we serve are navigating some of the hardest days of their lives.
- Compensation: $95,000–$105,000 + comprehensive benefits including health coverage and unlimited PTO.
- A clear growth path: as Miracle Babies scales regionally and nationally, this role grows into a VP-level development position with an expanded team and larger portfolio
Logistics
- Full-time, exempt | Hybrid — in-office every Monday required, with additional on-site presence during event seasons.
- Occasional travel to Orange County, Riverside, and eventually Northern California.
- Evening and weekend availability required for fundraising events (estimated 8–12 annually).
