Director of clinical operations - Hospital Medicine (HM) & Emergency Department (ED)

Location: Southern California

Work Arrangement: On-Site

Preferred Background: Nursing (RN, BSN preferred)

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Director of HM & ED Operations to lead operational performance and workflow optimization across Emergency Department and Hospital Medicine programs in Southern California. This on-site role requires strong physician engagement, staffing oversight, and data-driven performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead ED performance metrics including LWOBS, throughput times, door-to-provider, triage times, and CT utilization
  • Oversee Hospitalist metrics including LOS, CC/MCC capture, and CMI
  • Develop and manage staffing models, including backup coverage and surge plans
  • Create and implement policies and workflows to improve throughput, quality, and operational performance
  • Work directly with ED physicians, hospitalists, nursing leadership, and case management
  • Monitor performance dashboards and present action plans to leadership
  • Support new program launches and multi-site operational initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s (MHA, MBA, MPH) preferred
  • 5+ years of healthcare operations experience, preferably in ED or hospital-based physician services
  • Experience managing physician-led teams and hospital client relationships
  • Strong financial and operational acumen; multi-site leadership experience preferred

Preferred Experience

  • Physician management groups (EmCare, TeamHealth, SCP, USACS)
  • ED throughput metrics, staffing models, and hospital quality measures
  • RFP and contract support experience
