Summary:

The Director of Campus Security is the primary official responsible for overseeing the safety and security operations of the college and enforcing policies and procedures related to campus conduct and emergency protocols.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Campus Security is responsible for leading all campus security and public safety operations, which includes developing and managing emergency protocols, enforcing campus policies, and overseeing all departmental personnel. The role also involves managing the departmental budget and strategic planning, coordinating with external law enforcement and emergency agencies, and providing student-focused services.

  • Campus Security & Emergency Management: Lead the implementation of campus security systems, crime/incident investigations, and public safety programs. Develop and coordinate comprehensive emergency management procedures.

  • Personnel Management & Training: Oversee the hiring, scheduling, active supervision, and disciplinary actions for Security departmental employees. Establish orientation and field training, and implement ongoing training to maintain necessary certifications and competency levels.

  • Departmental & Community Liaison: Manage the departmental budget, strategic planning, and operational files. Serve as the Campus Clery Compliance Officer. Cultivate strong working relationships and coordination with local law enforcement, fire departments, hospitals, and county emergency management agencies.

  • Student Services: Serve as a campus service agency (e.g. vehicle assistance, safety escorts, medical response, etc.). Maintain excellent relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external customers/constituents.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s’ Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years experience relevant work experience in law enforcement, security, criminal justice, student judicial affairs, or related field, OR an Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience as previously listed

  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory or personnel management experience.

  • Experience developing and conducting training programs

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

  • Knowledge of college student development

  • Good public communications and report writing skills

  • Strong technical skills and ability to use multiple software applications

  • Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Must be insurable under the College’s insurance plan at the time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in law enforcement, criminal justice, student personnel or related field

  • Experience working in a college or education setting

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a climate control indoor environment and outdoors subject to various weather conditions. The employee regularly works near video display equipment and uses a vehicle. The employee frequently is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently works in the evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and hear. The employee must regularly lift, carry, move, push or pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, move, push or pull up to 50 pounds. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; ascend and descend ladders and ramps, climb a minimum of three flights of stairs without difficulty; run or jog short distances for emergent calls; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
