WAGE: $150,000 Annually
UNDER THE DIRECTION OF: General Manager
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Director of Activities provides strategic leadership and full operational oversight of all outdoor recreation, youth programming, and supporting facilities. This role is accountable for delivering extraordinary member experiences, driving innovation in programming, and ensuring operational excellence across Adventure, Wildstar (children’s programming), Makerspace (STEAM programming), and Lifeguard operations.
This leader is responsible for financial performance, asset management, team structure, safety, and compliance, while continuously evolving the club’s offerings through fresh, engaging, and high-quality experiences. The Director leads through managers and supervisors to ensure all programs are scalable, consistent, and aligned with the club’s vision and member expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Member Experience, Programming & Innovation Leadership
- Lead the vision, development, and delivery of extraordinary member experiences across all Adventures, youth programming, Makerspace programming, and Lifeguard operations.
- Design and implement fresh, innovative, and relevant programming that evolves with member interests and drives engagement.
- Establish a culture of experience excellence, ensuring every program reflects creativity, quality, and attention to detail.
- Develop new programs, signature events, and revenue-generating experiences that enhance satisfaction and support financial goals.
- Ensure consistency and quality across all programs and locations, with clear standards and executional excellence.
- Drive innovation while maintaining operational discipline—ensuring ideas are scalable, safe, and aligned with brand standards.
- Continuously evaluate offerings through member feedback and participation trends, refining programs to exceed expectations.
- Champion the club’s position as a leader in outdoor recreation and experiential hospitality.
2. Strategy & Program Development
- Define and execute long-term vision for:
- Adventure programming
- Youth and Lifeguard programming
- Makerspace programming
- Develop new experiences, events, and revenue-generating opportunities
- Align offerings with member expectations and club positioning
3. Organizational Leadership & Supervision
- Directly manage:
- Adventure Manager
- Wildstar & (Lifeguard) Manager
- Makerspace Manager
- Establish and oversee supervisory structure, which may include:
- Adventure Supervisors / Leads
- Camp Supervisors
- Head Lifeguards
- Define clear roles, responsibilities, and reporting lines
- Conduct regular performance reviews and leadership development planning
- Ensure managers are effectively supervising frontline staff
4. Financial Management & Budget Preparation
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets for all departments:
- Adventure operations
- Wildstar childcare and camps
- Lifeguards
- Outpost and specialty programming
- Makerspace programming
- Forecast seasonal staffing, revenue, and expenses
- Monitor financial performance against budget:
- Labor costs
- Program profitability
- Equipment and maintenance costs
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and revenue growth strategies
- Oversee member billing, vendor payments, and monthly reporting
5. Asset & Equipment Management
- Maintain full oversight of all adventure and recreational assets, including:
- Bikes (MTB/eMTB)
- Watercraft (SUPs, boats)
- Climbing equipment
- Winter equipment (skis, snowshoes, tubing infrastructure)
- Camp and childcare materials
- Makerspace materials
- Implement lifecycle management practices:
- Procurement planning
- Preventative maintenance schedules
- Repair and replacement tracking
- Ensure proper inventory systems and accountability across departments
- Coordinate capital expenditures and long-term equipment planning
6. Operational Oversight
- Oversee all major operational areas:
- Adventure Camp (via Manager)
- Moondance
- Outpost
- Jordanelle boating program
- Guided trips
- Wildstar and Lifeguards (via Manager)
- Makerspace (via Manager)
- Establish and enforce operating procedures and service standards
- Ensure consistency and efficiency across all locations
7. Permits, Compliance & Risk Oversight
- Maintain high-level oversight of:
- Special Use Permits (Jordanelle, Uinta Forest)
- Childcare licensing compliance
- Lifeguard compliance and licensing
- Safety measures for equipment used in Makerspace
- Outfitter and operational licensing
- Insurance policies and renewals
- Ensure systems are in place for:
- Risk management
- Incident reporting
- Emergency response protocols
- Hold managers accountable for day-to-day compliance execution
8. Vendor & Partnership Management
- Oversee key external relationships, including:
- Boating operations partners
- Event collaborators as needed
- Equipment vendors
- Negotiate contracts and ensure service delivery standards
- Monitor vendor performance and cost efficiency
9. Cross-Department Integration
- Partner with:
- Events team (programming, Outpost and Makerspace events)
- Membership and Experience teams
- Ensure seamless integration of Adventure, youth, Makerspace, and social programming
- Support club-wide initiatives and seasonal activations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. 5–8+ Years of Progressive Leadership Experience In:
- Outdoor recreation
- Hospitality or resort operations
- Youth programming or camp management
2. Minimum 3+ Years in Management or Director-Level Role with Direct Reports
3. Demonstrated Experience Managing:
- Multi-department operations
- Seasonal teams and staffing models
- Budgets and financial performance
4. Experience Overseeing High-Risk Operational Areas, Such As:
- Guided outdoor recreation
- Childcare or Youth programs
- Aquatics or similar safety-intensive environments
5. Proven Ability To:
- Lead and develop managers and supervisors
- Build scalable programs and systems
- Manage vendors, contracts, and partnerships
CERTIFICATIONS: (Preferred / Required)
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or higher (preferred)
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (required)
- Lifeguard certification (preferred)
- State childcare licensing knowledge or certification (preferred)
