Job Description

This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks and trailers in accordance with dealership and factory specifications. You will perform a wide range of mechanical and electrical repairs, ensure all work meets safety and quality standards, and document services accurately. This is a full-time, first-shift position (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) based in Mansfield, OH, with a contract-to-hire arrangement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair and maintenance work on diesel engine industrial trucks as outlined on repair orders, completing tasks efficiently and accurately in line with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions in diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, brakes, pneumatics, and suspensions, and carry out appropriate repairs.
  • Communicate with the parts department to identify and obtain the correct parts required for each repair.
  • Save and tag parts from repair jobs when work is covered under warranty or when specifically requested by the customer.
  • Inspect assigned vehicles thoroughly to determine whether additional safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Inform the service advisor or dispatcher immediately when additional work is needed, when requested work is not necessary, or when repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
  • Document all work performed and recommended services clearly and completely on repair orders.
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events to stay current with evolving technologies and repair procedures.
  • Report any machinery defects or malfunctions promptly to a supervisor to maintain a safe and efficient shop.
  • Keep each vehicle clean during service and notify the service advisor or dispatcher immediately of any changes to the vehicle’s appearance or condition.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean shop area to support a safe and professional work environment.
  • Maintain accountability for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, ensuring they are used properly and returned to their designated locations in good condition.
  • Stay informed about and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements.
  • Operate all tools, equipment, and shop resources in a safe manner and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or potential hazards to management immediately.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience working with diesel engines and diesel-powered trucks.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for diesel engines, including the ability to identify and resolve complex mechanical issues.
  • Proficiency in diesel repair and truck repair, including engine, brake, suspension, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform repairs on transmissions, engines, and related components.
  • Electrical experience, including diagnosing and repairing electrical systems on medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow repair orders, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with service advisors, dispatchers, and parts personnel regarding repair needs and timelines.
  • Understanding of and adherence to safety regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements.
  • Capability to operate shop tools and equipment safely and effectively in a busy service environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with a variety of diesel engines used in medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
  • ASE certifications in relevant areas of diesel or truck repair (preferred).
  • Formal diesel schooling or technical training in diesel technology (preferred).
  • Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, and suspension systems on commercial trucks.
  • Ability to maintain accurate service documentation and repair records.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing, manufacturer-sponsored training and development.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for tools, equipment, and work quality.

Work Environment

This position is based in a modern, state-of-the-art medium- and heavy-duty truck and trailer service facility in Mansfield, OH. You will work in fully tooled service shops equipped with professional-grade tools and equipment, supported by company-paid uniforms and a boot program. The role follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with opportunities for overtime. The shop environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, with strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements. Technicians collaborate closely with service advisors, dispatchers, and parts personnel in a structured yet supportive setting, with access to dedicated break rooms for rest and downtime during the workday.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mansfield, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $83200.00/hr.
