Summary
This is a full-time on-site role for a Custodian at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, MI. The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of assigned areas, performing cleaning tasks according to established standards and protocols, and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors.Keeps the college buildings in clean, safe and orderly condition by performing the following duties.
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED
Basic computer literacy
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid unrestricted driver’s license
Ability to follow safety protocols and guidelines
Physical ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods
Attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning tasks
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team
Preferred
One year’s experience working in a custodial setting
A working knowledge of the theory, operation, and upkeep of electrical and mechanical janitorial equipment
Cleaning Duties
Cleans offices, classrooms, laboratories, and cafeteria, including tasks such as high dusting; cleaning walls; cleaning desks, bookcases, tables, etc.; This includes moving, carrying, and lifting heavy objects such as tables and furniture and moving these large items often. cleaning whiteboards; dusting; dust and wet mopping; cleaning sinks; and vacuuming.
Cleans restrooms, including high dusting; cleaning walls; sanitizing fixtures; dust and wet mopping floors; scrubbing floors as needed.
Operates cleaning equipment for hard surface floors and carpets, which includes major cleaning equipment such as roto, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and extractors.
Performs total carpet care, including extraction and plating, and all other phases of carpet cleaning and care.
Performs total floor care and treatment, including dust and wet mopping; edge cleaning; shower scrubbing; stripping; and re-finishing.
Cleans carts and equipment, stocks supplies; keeps custodial closet clean; and completes equipment preventative maintenance, i.e., battery water levels; cleans equipment after use, etc.
Washing all interior windows.
Cleans snow and debris from sidewalks.
