Counseling Services: Counseling Associate Director/Training Coordinator

POSITION: The Associate Director/Training Coordinator reports to the Director of Counseling Services and works collaboratively within a shared leadership model, with final decision-making authority residing with the Director.
Principal Duties and Functions:
Administrative
  • Collaborate with the Director to provide leadership and consultation to colleagues, particularly with urgent and high-risk clinical cases.
  • Assist the Director with key administrative responsibilities, including but not limited to policy development, budget, overseeing staff functions in collaboration with the Director, generating and analyzing statistical reports, writing the annual report, and utilizing quality assurance processes to ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  • Represent the Counseling Center on university and community committees and functions, as appropriate.
  • Serve as Acting Director in the absence of the Director.
Clinical
  • Providing individual, group, and couples therapy, as well as crisis intervention counseling services to university students within a brief treatment model.
  • Providing consultation services to faculty and staff.
  • Providing outreach to campus organizations and classes to inform students about personal development and mental health concerns.
  • Provide direct supervision to graduate practicum students and interns.
  • Assume other duties as requested by the director, as appropriate.
Training Coordinator
  • Coordinate the intern/practicum program for graduate-level students.
  • Maintain current policies and procedures for the internship program.
  • Act as a liaison for the interns’ universities.
  • Coordinate intern recruitment and participation in selection and hiring decisions in collaboration with the Director.
  • Facilitate biweekly training team meetings.
  • Facilitate intern seminars.
  • Assume other duties as requested by the director, as appropriate.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Assists in executive decision making as a member of the leadership team of counseling services
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • May manage the unit budget
  • Manages administrative and medical records
  • Functions as administrator of the counseling services and provides oversight of training efforts
  • Establishes on-going staff development activities
  • Manages psychological emergencies and crises for individual patients and the community at large
  • Provides mental health services including diagnostic evaluations, assessments of suicide/homicide or other danger to the community, referrals and monitoring of medications, decisions regarding hospitalization or withdrawal from school, and ongoing treatment; and advises families
  • Functions as the day-to-day contact person in the Director's absence which may involve responding to life-threatening crises and providing direction to staff and students
Department: Counseling Services
Required Qualifications:
  • Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education. A Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family therapy, or closely related field will be considered if the applicant has at least 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Supervised internship or work experience in a university counseling center, mental health agency, or related professional setting
  • Experience supervising the clinical work of interns; preference for experience in a multi-disciplinary team-oriented environment
  • Required to be licensed (or license eligible) in the state of Wisconsin
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Clinical experience facilitating general process groups and psycho-educational workshops
  • Experience conducting brief therapy and outreach
  • Has been licensed for at least 5 years
  • Experience working in a University Counseling Center
