About the Position
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for new home construction projects. This role works closely with purchasing, architecture, construction, and sales, to develop budgets, analyze costs, maintain pricing databases, and support profitability goals for the builder.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate cost estimates and budgets for residential construction projects, including new home plans, model homes, and buyer customizations.
- Review construction plans, specifications, and engineering documents to ensure estimating accuracy and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Collaborate with architecture, engineering, sales, pre-construction, and field teams to resolve discrepancies and support project execution.
- Analyze estimated versus actual costs, monitor variances, and maintain compliance with company cost objectives.
- Manage estimating databases, takeoff systems, and software tools, including BRIX, PlanSwift, and AutoCAD.
- Support sales pricing, material quantity verification, and budget audits to ensure accuracy and profitability across communities and floor plans.
Knowledge and Skills
- Production homebuilding experience
- Knowledge of takeoff software (PlanSwift preferred) and ERP/homebuilding systems (BRIX preferred)
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word)
- Detail oriented and organized
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
- Knowledge of new home construction process
Education and Work Experience
- High School Diploma required
- College degree or 2-4 years of residential home construction experience preferred
