Corporate & Investment Banking Control

The Corporate & Investment Banking Control organization serves as the front line of risk management and is accountable for assessing and effectively managing all associated risks for their groups. This team works to ensure internal controls, processes, and procedures are adequate and effective, and executive management understands the risks, exposures, and trends that impact the business. The group also collaborates on projects and initiatives by providing support and awareness of risks and mitigating control solutions.

The Role

This position is within the CIB Control organization and will be responsible for the development and management of the business risk control platform, supporting the Global Markets Division This position requires an in-depth understanding of Global Markets, market practice, operations, technology and relevant regulations. This leader will manage a team responsible for the design and implementation of front line controls with respect to a variety of regulatory requirements, Wells Fargo policies and industry best practices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing risk management and Markets subject matter expertise, driving Risk & Controls Self Assessment(RCSA), leading risk identification, assessment and mitigation strategies, and managing a team of professionals that perform day to day risk and control activities.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Key point of contact for senior leaders in CIB, CIB Control, IRM, Wells Fargo Audit, regulators, and other constituents; ensure that all inquiries are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Lead and develop a team with a strong working knowledge of the Markets business and the key risk and controls that apply to the businesses to serve as the primary day-to-day coverage officers, with proven knowledge of products, services, processes, systems and customers in the business.
  • Drive communication among senior leaders in Markets, COO, CIB Control, and other key stakeholders managing flow of information related but not limited to operational support risks, operational process and control health, and similar infrastructure and capacity concerns impacting CIB.
  • Continuously engage in discussions with LOB partners on strategy, industry trends, organizational changes, and new/modified markets, systems, products and services, to determine impact and identify and remediate risk and control issues across all risk types.
  • Serve as the Co-Chair of the Markets Division Risk Committee.
  • Execute and manage the advancement of core risk program requirements, such as RCSA, Operational Risk Event analysis and reporting, and issues management.
  • Escalation point for all control issues related to Markets.
  • Guide the Markets business leaders through detailed risk and control evaluations, collection of metrics and maintaining a quarterly forum to evidence management validation and attestation to RCSA.
  • Lead the team to document and assess operational risk incidents using methods such as root cause analysis. Consult with business to develop corrective action plans. Oversee implementation progress and conduct validation efforts as required. Coordinate with business and support partners for creation of Self-Disclosed issues in Issues Management system of record. Record losses in the system of record, as applicable.
  • Drive reporting, written and verbal updates to LOB risk oversight councils, CIB and Enterprise risk committees as issues/incidents arise that require escalation.
  • Coordinate with internal testing engagements, such as Evidence Based Control Evaluation, Internal audit and Regulatory exams.
  • Work with the business and support teams to provide operational risk expertise and consulting for projects and platform initiatives, taking into account impacts to risk & control framework.

This role requires a leader with strong relationship management, influencing, vision and execution skills. The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement.

The successful candidate will work closely with other senior leaders across CIB Control, and risk and operational partners from elsewhere in the company in the development and execution of company risk management strategies. Accordingly, critical success factors will include the ability to develop partnerships with many business and functional areas, provide insight into the economic climate and related market developments and identify trends which may present opportunities or reflect gaps in the Company's risk management execution/direction.

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 8+ years of Risk Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of Management experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with first line controls and operational processes around regulatory reporting, entitlements, electronic trading and operations processing.

  • Prior experience in process improvement, automation of control processes, quality assurance and quality control routines, and risk and control metrics and reporting.

  • Strong working knowledge of Markets businesses, its products and services, and relevant risks and controls of the business.

  • Working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) concepts and policies across risk types (regulatory, financial crimes, credit, operational, etc.).

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal); ability to concisely articulate complex concepts in a clear manner.

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Highly professional, adaptable and pro-active mindset.

  • Ability to translate technical language into plain business language, and to translate business requirements into technology initiatives.

  • Demonstrated capability to confidently raise issues, escalate early, and engage in constructive credible challenge independently.

  • Technical understanding of specific business operations, processes, products, and customer interactions where they manifest risk.

  • Ability to develop high performing, diverse risk structure in a highly matrixed environment.

  • Ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate.

  • Pro-actively resolve conflict and maintain objectivity.

  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, and deliver quality analysis and highly-actionable actionable management information.

Pay Range:

  • 207,900.00 - 431,900.00 USD Annual
  • May be considered for a discretionary bonus, Restricted Share Rights or other long-term incentive awards
