Job Summary
Ensures compliance tasks and best management practices are completed for compliance with environmental rules and regulations such as the Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Emergency Planning and Right-To-Know (EPCRA), and the Solid Waste Disposal Act (SWDA). Operates wastewater treatment facilities and performs wastewater and stormwater discharge monitoring. Interacts with members of the regulatory community and company personnel. Conducts and participates in facility compliance reviews and implements identified corrective actions. Participates in fixed facility spill response. Must be able to obtain a state wastewater operator license as required. Must be able to work with limited supervision, deliver training to groups and possess strong written and verbal communications skills. Computer skills with Windows operating systems are a plus.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
Perform regulatory compliance inspections that fall under the CWA, CAA, RCRA, SWDA, and state or local regulations and perform corrective actions.
Operate wastewater treatment facilities.
Coordinate disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
Meet with regulatory agency representatives and CSX Operating personnel.
Work with contractors, consultants and teams to complete tasks.
Participate in fixed facility spill response and assist with other environmental incidents.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree in Science Related Major
1 or more years of experience in wastewater treatment, environmental project management, hazardous waste disposal, or spill response
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma
4 or more years of experience in wastewater treatment, environmental project management, hazardous waste disposal, or spill response
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree in Science Related Major
Current Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s license in IL, MI, IN
2 or more years of experience in wastewater treatment, environmental project management, hazardous waste disposal, or spill response
Knowledge and Skills
Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (Emergency Planning and Right-To-Know (EPCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Solid Waste Disposal Act (SWDA), etc.)
Familiarity with wastewater treatment facilities to include operations, discharge monitoring reporting and maintenance
Basic Knowledge of sampling of wastewater discharges and various wastes (hazardous, non-hazardous and universal) for proper handling, including disposal and recycling
Ability to provide training to field personnel
Ability to manage multiple projects and work with minimal supervision
Ability to communicate effectively with field operations personnel and labor employees
Microsoft Office skills
Ability to communicate effectively with the regulatory agency representatives
