Job Description

The Controls Technician is a maintenance-level role responsible for commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting control systems used in industrial automation environments. This position focuses on ensuring that electrical and control systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Commission new industrial control systems and verify that all components function according to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Diagnose faults in PLC-based control systems and support adjustments or modifications as needed.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and related technical documentation to support maintenance and repair activities.
  • Work safely with high voltage 3-phase power systems during installation, testing, and maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect, maintain, and support electric motors and drives to ensure reliable operation in industrial applications.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to minimize downtime and improve system performance.
  • Document work performed, including issues identified, repairs completed, and changes made to control systems.
  • Follow established safety procedures and industry best practices when working with electrical and control equipment.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting industrial control systems and electrical equipment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of electric motors and drives in an industrial setting.
  • Comfort and competence working with high voltage 3-phase power in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Familiarity with various PLC platforms and their application in industrial automation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose technical issues efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience in industrial automation or maintenance environments is beneficial.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new control technologies and platforms.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and documenting work.

Work Environment

The role is based in an industrial setting that involves hands-on work with electrical panels, control systems, electric motors, drives, and high voltage 3-phase power. You will work around production equipment and automation systems, using tools and test equipment common to electrical and controls maintenance. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Work hours typically follow standard industrial maintenance schedules, which may include occasional overtime or off-shift work depending on operational needs, and require comfort working on the production floor and in equipment areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Syracuse, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
