Position Summary
The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development and integration of all hardware drawings and software components as required to produce, complete, and fully functional building automation systems for assigned projects.
Position Details
- HARDWARE DESIGN:
- Review plans,specificationsand sales proposals for assigned projects and prepare engineering plans.
- Generate CAD control drawings and project submittal drawings asrequiredon assigned projects.
- Select products,controllersand end devices as needed to perform required control sequences.
- Collaborates with other Engineers (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) and contractors (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) during the design phase.
- Utilizes and develops CAD tools used in the system engineering process.
- During the course ofthe contract and at the end of the job, updates hardware design packages based on changing project conditions.
- SOFTWARE DESIGN:
- Support the Software Specialist and Field Technicians with generation of custom control programming and databases asrequiredon assigned projects.
- Support the Software Specialist and Field Technicians with Design, program, debug, simulate,configuresparameters and testing control system software.
- During the course ofthe contract and at the end of the job, update software packages with approved input from project engineers.
- GRAPHICS DESIGN:
- Design,developand verify graphic files in accordancetothe project requirements.
- Follows up to ensure completed graphics are correct. Follows up duringcourseof the contract and at the end of the job to ensure approved modifications are implemented.
- INTEGRATION:
- Designs and completes LAN/WAN configuration includingBacNetintegration and other functional requirements for complete system integration.
- Applies open protocol control products and solutions for multi-vendor HVAC control
- PERFORMANCE QUALITY:
- Performs all workin accordance withcontract documents and applicable company standards.
- Performs work to meet project schedules and to facilitate others to meet project schedules.
- Developsprocedures and check lists for the execution of specific engineering tasks tomaintainconsistency and completeness of the work.
- COMMUNICATIONS:
- Keeps Project Engineer informed of questions, progress, RFI needs, non-standard product requirements, discrepancies in contract documents and other issuesimpactingdesign and schedules.
- Initiatesfollow upaction to secure needed responsesin a timely manner.
- Prepares and presents work in a fashion to be understood by intended audiences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering technology, or a related field.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in DDC controls or building automation design.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including sequence of operations, technical product literature, programming manuals and specifications.
- Knowledge of the latest versions of AutoCAD and MS Visio.
- Knowledge of building mechanical and electrical equipment functions and use, HVAC systems controls applications, hardware and software products.
- Knowledge of commonly used networks and network topologies.
- Familiar with NEC code for Class 2 wiring.
- Ability to function independently from daily supervision.
- Ability to travel to jobsites to assist in the work and further understanding of control system applications.

Pay:Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For California, this ranges from $100,000.00-$130,000.00 yearlyplus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
