Controls Automation Engineer

Venteon is currently seeking a Controls Automation Engineer for a manufacturing company in the Mt. Pleasant, IA area. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career looking to grow within a fast-paced, hands-on environment.


Position Overview

The Controls Automation Engineer will support the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems and automation equipment. This role works closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve system performance and reliability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with programming, configuring, and troubleshooting PLCs and HMIs (Siemens primarily)
  • Support troubleshooting of control systems, drives, and instrumentation to minimize downtime
  • Maintain and update control system documentation, including wiring diagrams
  • Collaborate on equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvements
  • Support capital equipment projects and new system implementations
  • Assist in implementing FactoryTalk and other automation platforms
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support and train maintenance technicians on automation systems
  • Participate in plant initiatives such as Gemba, 5S, and continuous improvement programs
  • Assist with MES-related systems (e.g., Camline, Iconics, WiriTec) as applicable


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience with control systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens preferred)
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and industrial networks
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Hands-on troubleshooting ability with tools such as multimeters
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to support off-shift or weekend work as needed
