Responsibilities:

  • Lead all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month‑end/year‑end close.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP for nonprofit organizations.
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as primary contact for annual audits; coordinate schedules, documentation, and auditor requests.
  • Oversee all aspects of grant accounting, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Ensure proper allocation of expenses in accordance with grant agreements, donor restrictions, and funding requirements.
  • Prepare grant‑related financial reports for funders, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor grant budgets, spending timelines, and compliance with federal, state, and private grant requirements (including Uniform Guidance, if applicable).
  • Partner with program leaders to provide financial guidance related to grant funding and reporting.
  • Lead the development, monitoring, and management of the organization’s annual operating budget.
  • Work collaboratively with department heads to build realistic budgets and forecasts aligned with organizational goals.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide clear explanations and recommendations to leadership.
  • Support long‑term financial planning and scenario analysis.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting best practices and professional development.
  • Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic initiatives.
  • Present financial data and analysis to leadership and, as needed, the Board of Directors or Finance Committee.
  • Support continuous improvement of financial systems, processes, and reporting tools.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • Minimum 5–10+ years of accounting experience, with significant experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Proven experience with grant accounting, including restricted funds and compliance reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and monitoring an operating budget.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP for nonprofits.
  • Experience coordinating audits and working with external auditors.
  • Proficiency with nonprofit accounting systems and Excel.
  • Experience with government grants and Uniform Guidance.
  • Prior experience supporting Board or Finance Committee reporting.
  • Familiarity with fund accounting software and nonprofit ERP systems.
