Summary
Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, and oil & gas revenue accounting (JIB and production). Oversee financial reporting, monthly close, cash flow, and internal controls, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Partner with leadership to provide financial insights, support budgeting and forecasting, manage audits and tax compliance, and lead the accounting team while driving process improvements.
Essential Functions
Primary roles and responsibilities will include:
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, and oil & gas revenue accounting (JIB and production).
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and deliver financial statements, variance analysis, and management reports to support executive decision-making.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury activities, including forecasting and liquidity planning.
- Oversee revenue accounting processes, including production reporting, revenue distribution, and joint interest billing.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage fixed assets, capital expenditures, and tax compliance (property, sales, and use taxes).
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial analysis and performance insights.
- Develop and deliver ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff while driving process improvements and system optimization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- Demonstrated experience in upstream oil & gas (E&P) operations, with strong understanding of revenue accounting, Joint Interest Billing (JIB), and production-related financial processes.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive financial information and confidential business matters.
- Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands-on, balancing leadership responsibilities with detailed execution in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, land, and executive teams.
- Continuous improvement mindset, with demonstrated ability to enhance processes, strengthen internal controls, and optimize financial systems and workflows.
Working Settings
- 95-100% office environment, 0-5% field environment;
- Travel between the KPK office and various oil & gas field operations as required.
- Hybrid – 4 days in office, 1 day remote
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management required; CPA or advanced certification preferred, or equivalent combination of education and ten (10) years of progressive Controller-level experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, with increasing responsibility in financial reporting and operations.
- Minimum five (5) years of oil & gas revenue accounting experience, including exposure to Joint Interest Billing (JIB), production accounting, and revenue distribution processes.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls, with at least three (3) years of experience applying accounting standards in a complex, multi-entity environment.
- Working knowledge of accounts receivable, billing practices, and applicable city, county, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Experience with ERP and accounting systems, including Microsoft Dynamics and oil & gas–specific platforms such as Enertia; strong systems aptitude preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a lean, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
Compensation
- $140,000 - $170,000 per year.
- Salary will be commensurate with experience.
