About the Opportunity
An established and expanding real estate investment and property management firm in Westchester County is looking to appoint a CFO / Snr Controller to lead the evolution of its finance function.
This role offers the opportunity to step into a business undergoing significant growth and change, with a clear mandate to upgrade systems, rebuild the team, and introduce stronger processes and controls across a multifamily and mixed-use portfolio.
The Role
The CFO / Controller will assume full responsibility for the finance and accounting function, playing a key role in both day-to-day operations and longer-term transformation initiatives.
The position will involve restructuring and mentoring a team of approximately 10, leading the transition from multiple legacy systems into one unified platform, and implementing more robust and scalable financial processes.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys building structure, improving efficiency, and partnering with leadership to drive better financial and operational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee, develop, and reorganize a team of around 10 accounting professionals
Create a high-performance culture with clear structure, accountability, and progression
Lead the consolidation of multiple accounting systems into a single platform
Drive process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
Manage all aspects of accounting across corporate and property-level entities
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including consolidated outputs
Own the budgeting and forecasting cycle across the portfolio
Provide insight into financial performance, cash flow, and key business drivers
Strengthen internal controls and financial procedures
Maintain compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards
Partner with senior leadership and operational teams to support decision-making
Act as a trusted advisor on financial matters across the business
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
12–18 years of relevant experience, ideally within real estate or property management
Demonstrated experience building or reshaping finance teams
Track record of leading systems implementations or finance transformation projects
Hands-on approach with the ability to operate effectively in a changing environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Experience
Background in real estate investment, development, or property management
Experience driving process improvements and implementing controls
CPA or similar professional qualification
