YOUR ROLE AS A CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER IAs a Control Systems Engineer I at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will support the implementation, maintenance, and operation of control systems across system dispatch and generation facilities. You will work with SCADA/EMS systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and remote terminal units (RTUs), helping ensure reliable and secure system performance.
In this role, you will assist with developing, modifying, and maintaining control system applications, supporting real-time system monitoring, and troubleshooting hardware and software issues. You will collaborate with engineers, dispatchers, electricians, and other stakeholders to support system operations, testing, and data collection.
You will also contribute to system reporting and forecasting by ensuring data accuracy and reliability within system databases and historians. This position provides exposure to a wide range of technologies, including Linux environments, networking, and industrial control systems, while building a strong foundation in utility operations.
This is an entry-level position where you will work under the guidance of experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience and developing the technical skills needed to support critical infrastructure systems.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFULTo succeed as a Control Systems Engineer I at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. This is an entry-level role designed for individuals with less than three years of relevant experience.
While prior experience with control systems, SCADA/EMS environments, or industrial systems is beneficial, it is not required. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong technical foundation, problem-solving ability, and a willingness to learn and grow in a complex and evolving environment.
