Job Title: Construction Safety ManagerJob DescriptionThe Construction Safety Manager oversees and leads all safety efforts on a large, complex construction project, ensuring full compliance with company, client, and OSHA safety standards. This role promotes a strong safety culture, proactively identifies and mitigates hazards, and ensures that all contractor activities are properly planned and executed with safety as a top priority. The Construction Safety Manager maintains comprehensive safety documentation, leads investigations, delivers training, and partners closely with project leadership to continuously improve safety performance while managing and developing direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead all safety activities on a large-scale construction project, ensuring alignment with company, client, and OSHA safety standards.
- Promote and reinforce a strong, proactive safety culture across the project, emphasizing hazard recognition, risk reduction, and safe work practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of the construction site, documenting findings and driving timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain complete and accurate safety documentation, including safety plans, inspection reports, training records, and incident logs.
- Review and approve job hazard analyses (JHAs) and other task-specific safety plans to ensure risks are identified and properly controlled before work begins.
- Lead thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Provide safety training, coaching, and toolbox talks to project teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring understanding of safety expectations and procedures.
- Manage, mentor, and coach direct reports within the safety team, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development support.
- Analyze safety performance data and trends to identify areas for improvement and recommend strategies to enhance overall safety outcomes.
- Partner closely with project leadership, field supervision, and subcontractors to integrate safety into planning, scheduling, and daily operations.
- Ensure contractor activities are properly planned and executed with safety as a priority, including pre-task planning and compliance with site-specific requirements.
- Support compliance with all applicable safety regulations, standards, and company policies, including OSHA and construction safety best practices.
- Utilize safety audit and reporting tools, such as SafetyNet or similar platforms, to track, report, and communicate safety performance.
- Collaborate with executive-level stakeholders and project leaders to communicate safety performance, initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Skills- 4–5+ years of construction safety management experience on large-scale construction projects of approximately $50M or greater.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor, and coach direct reports within a safety function.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
- Proven experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident or accident investigations on construction sites.
- Hands-on experience with construction site safety management, including field-based oversight and interaction with contractors and project teams.
- Proficiency in safety management and compliance regulations relevant to construction environments.
- Ability to provide effective safety training and communicate safety expectations clearly to diverse project stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret safety data, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and leadership.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- BCSP safety credential (such as CSP, ASP, or equivalent).
- Authorized OSHA or GU safety instructor certification.
- OSHA 30-hour certification.
- OSHA 500 certification.
- Experience using safety audit and reporting tools, such as SafetyNet or similar safety management platforms.
- Experience leading safety efforts on high-impact, large-scale construction projects.
- Ability to work effectively with executive-level stakeholders and project leadership, providing clear safety guidance and recommendations.
Work EnvironmentThis role supports safety operations on a single large construction project and is primarily field-based, with frequent site walks, inspections, and direct interaction with contractors and project teams. The environment is highly collaborative, involving close partnership with project leadership, subcontractors, and various field personnel to integrate safety into daily operations. The position offers the opportunity to lead safety on a high-impact project, gain strong leadership exposure, and work closely with executive-level stakeholders. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $48.10 - $72.12/hr.
