Operations Manager

The ONSITE Group | Livermore, CA | Full-Time

The ONSITE Group is a multi-division commercial contractor delivering telecom infrastructure, building construction, and general engineering services across California. Our work ranges from underground directional boring and aerial telecom to asphalt paving, ADA compliance upgrades, and tenant improvements. As we grow, we need an operational leader who can keep the machine running smoothly behind the scenes.

Position Overview The Operations Manager serves as the internal project management hub for ONSITE — the connective tissue between field crews, project managers, estimating, accounting, and ownership. This role is responsible for ensuring that internal workflows, scheduling, resource allocation, and project administration run efficiently across all three divisions. This is not a field PM role; it's an inside operations leadership role focused on process, coordination, and execution accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own internal project lifecycle administration from award through closeout — contracts, subcontracts, insurance COIs, permits, and compliance documentation
  • Develop and maintain master project schedules across active jobs, flagging conflicts and resource gaps to leadership
  • Coordinate cross-divisional resource planning — labor, equipment, and subcontractor deployment
  • Serve as the internal point of contact between field PMs and back-office functions (accounting, HR, estimating, procurement)
  • Build and enforce standard operating procedures for project intake, job setup, change order tracking, and closeout
  • Monitor project KPIs — schedule adherence, budget vs. actual, crew productivity — and surface issues early
  • Manage vendor and subcontractor onboarding, qualification, and ongoing compliance (insurance, licensing, DIR registration)
  • Support proposal and estimating processes by providing operational input on scheduling, crew capacity, and logistics feasibility
  • Assist with fleet, equipment, and tool tracking and utilization reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework, improve communication, and increase field efficiency
  • Report directly to senior leadership and contribute to company-wide operational planning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Operations, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of operations, project coordination, or project management experience in construction, contractor, or infrastructure services
  • Strong working knowledge of construction project lifecycle — from bid to closeout
  • Experience managing subcontractors, compliance documentation, and multi-project scheduling
  • Proficiency in project management tools (Procore, Buildertrend, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office/Google Suite
  • Familiarity with California contractor requirements — DIR, CSLB, prevailing wage, bonding — a significant plus
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills; able to manage up, down, and across with credibility
  • Thrives in a high-volume, fast-moving environment with multiple simultaneous priorities
