Job Title: Construction Laborer
Job Description

This role supports painting and construction crews by performing a wide range of general labor tasks, with a strong focus on surface preparation, equipment handling, and safe work practices. You will work closely with painters and crew leaders on both commercial and residential projects, helping ensure each job runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Assist painters with surface preparation, including sanding, scraping, caulking, and cleaning surfaces before painting.
  • Set up and break down ladders, drop cloths, tools, and materials at each job site.
  • Protect windows, floors, fixtures, and other surfaces using appropriate coverings and materials.
  • Load and unload equipment, paint, and supplies from vehicles and storage areas.
  • Perform general labor tasks such as moving materials, carrying ladders, and organizing the work area.
  • Support painting tasks as trained, including rolling, brushing, and basic preparation work.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively as needed for assigned tasks.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe ladder handling techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe job site throughout the workday.
  • Communicate effectively with crew leaders and team members to understand priorities and complete tasks on time.
Essential Skills
  • Experience performing general labor in construction, painting, or a similar hands-on environment.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and carry ladders, materials, and equipment throughout the workday.
  • Familiarity with commercial and residential construction settings.
  • Comfort using basic hand tools and power tools safely.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and use PPE correctly, including safe ladder handling.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with crew leaders and team members.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience assisting painters with surface preparation such as sanding, scraping, caulking, and cleaning.
  • Experience with basic painting tasks, including rolling, brushing, and prep work.
  • Ability to work reliably on a set schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Willingness to work on both interior and occasional outdoor projects.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail in maintaining clean and protected work areas.

Work Environment

The work takes place primarily in interior environments, with some tasks performed outdoors as needed depending on project requirements. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the potential for continued employment after the initial contract period. You will work on both commercial and residential construction sites, using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and standard painting equipment in a safety-focused setting. The environment is active and physically demanding, requiring frequent lifting, carrying, and movement throughout the day, while adhering to all safety guidelines and proper use of PPE.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lees Summit, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
