Job Title: Construction EngineerJob DescriptionThis role involves leading projects from award through closeout, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, contract, and environmental requirements. The position requires managing technical documentation, compliance, estimating support, and maintaining hands-on field involvement to solve technical and logistical challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead project safety culture by instilling foundational safety behaviors in all project activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, contract, and environmental requirements.
- Prepare and maintain schedules, budgets, change orders, RFIs, and daily/weekly reporting.
- Coordinate daily with field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients for safe and efficient site operations.
- Prepare, track, and submit invoices with appropriate backup tied to the Schedule of Values (SOV).
- Maintain strong cost control and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure delivery of all required submittals, documentation, and regulatory compliance items.
- Write detailed Work Plans such as Health & Safety Plans (HASPs), Sampling & Analysis Plans (SAPs), and Quality Control Plans.
- Prepare technical narratives, work methods, and environmental execution strategies.
- Assist with detailed cost estimates for various civil and environmental remediation projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, technical reports, and environmental data for bid proposals.
- Present bid packages, develop technical approach plans, and participate in value engineering discussions.
- Conduct site visits and apply field experience to assess constructability, risks, and site-specific needs.
- Obtain all necessary permits to complete the work.
- Maintain a hands-on presence on job sites, especially during project startups and critical operations.
- Support field teams with equipment knowledge, production planning, and safe work execution.
- Strengthen and expand relationships with consulting project teams and existing clients.
- Leverage industry contacts to identify new leads and strategic pursuits.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, industry events, and client check-ins.
- Support proposal development, bid strategies, and long-term growth initiatives.
Essential Skills- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in environmental remediation, civil construction, or a closely related field.
- Collaborative and able to work well with engineers and consulting staff.
- Ability to estimate, manage, and execute complex field projects.
- Strong client-facing and business development skills.
- Proficiency with P6, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, Microsoft Projects, etc.
- Solid understanding of environmental regulations (CERCLA, RCRA, Brownfields, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical plan writing.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to visit active project sites regularly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience in environmental engineering, project management, remediation projects, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction management, and environmental compliance.
- Experience in scheduling and budgeting.
- Takes ownership of project activities and collaboratively solves problems.
- Performs work with grit and professional excellence.
Work EnvironmentIndividual can work out of various locations including Charlotte. The role requires visiting active project sites regularly. The work involves interacting with diverse teams and maintaining a hands-on presence on job sites as needed.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55.00 - $68.00/hr.
