Job Title: Construction Assistant Superintendent

Job Description

This long-term Construction Assistant Superintendent role supports commercial ground-up projects in the Binghamton and Ithaca areas. You will work onsite, closely partnering with the Project Manager and field staff to drive schedule, coordinate subcontractors, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality.

Responsibilities

  • Support the onsite Project Manager in day-to-day field operations for commercial ground-up construction projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and update three-week schedules and look-ahead plans to keep the project on track.
  • Oversee and coordinate subcontractors in the field, maintaining clear control of activities, sequencing, and progress.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with field staff to ensure alignment on daily tasks, priorities, and safety expectations.
  • Monitor construction activities to confirm work complies with plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Assist with implementing and enforcing site safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Use construction management software, such as Procore or similar platforms, to track project information, documentation, and field reports.
  • Identify potential issues or delays early and collaborate with the Project Manager and subcontractors to resolve them.
  • Support quality control efforts by inspecting work, documenting issues, and following up on corrective actions.
  • Participate in onsite meetings with project teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain an organized and professional field office environment within the onsite trailer.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in commercial construction.
  • Experience working with or for a general contractor on commercial projects.
  • Strong ability to create and manage three-week schedules and look-ahead plans.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing and coordinating subcontractors in the field.
  • Solid communication skills for effective interaction with field staff and project teams.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent OSHA safety training.
  • Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management software.
  • Ability to work full-time onsite at project locations in the Binghamton and Ithaca areas.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience reporting directly to an onsite Project Manager on commercial construction projects.
  • Familiarity with best practices in field documentation and reporting using digital tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple field activities.
  • Ability to anticipate challenges in schedule, coordination, and safety, and propose practical solutions.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and professionalism on the jobsite.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite, based primarily in a construction trailer at active commercial ground-up project sites in the Binghamton and Ithaca areas. You will work in a dynamic field environment, regularly interacting with subcontractors, field staff, and the onsite Project Manager. The position involves being present on the jobsite during standard construction hours, with potential for extended hours as project needs require. You will use construction management software such as Procore or similar platforms, along with standard office and communication tools within the trailer. The environment is fast-paced and schedule-driven, with a strong focus on safety, coordination, and clear communication among all project stakeholders.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Binghamton, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $57.00/hr.
