Position Summary
The Construction and Volunteer Manager is a full-time, working supervisory role responsible for overseeing subcontractors, volunteers, partner families, and staff on Habitat construction sites. This position leads daily construction operations with a strong focus on safety, quality, training, teamwork, and volunteer engagement.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on residential construction experience with strong leadership and project management skills. This role requires the ability to perform and teach a variety of new home construction tasks while creating a positive, mission-driven experience for volunteers and partner families.
Employment Details
- Full-time, non-exempt position
- 40 hours per week with benefits
- Regular schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- Volunteer build days: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Key Responsibilities
- Build HFHS homes according to plans, specifications, schedules, and quality standards
- Adhere to project schedules and deadlines
- Prepare for, organize, supervise, and lead volunteer activities on designated volunteer days
- Supervise, lead, train, and instruct volunteers and partner family members on construction techniques and Habitat safety standards
- Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented worksite environment that encourages volunteers to return and supports the mission of Habitat for Humanity Sarasota (HFHS)
- Continuously monitor and enforce safe work practices on all job sites
- Serve as a professional ambassador for HFHS
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of residential construction and project management experience
- Knowledge of Florida building codes, materials and construction techniques
- Hands-on experience in new home construction
- Commitment to supporting Habitat’s mission and strategic plan
- Professional construction appearance and demeanor
- Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and low-income family populations
- Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with partner families, volunteers, donors, contractors, and staff
- Patience and willingness to work with and teach unskilled volunteers
- Ability to work successfully within a team environment
- “Get it done” attitude and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience
- New home construction experience
- Experience teaching or leading construction skills
- Construction or OSHA certification/training
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and iPhone apps
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate and exchange information effectively
- Ability to routinely lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. unassisted
- Ability to lift over 75 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to bend, stand, crawl, walk, reach, and pull for extended periods
- Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, gripping, and manipulating tools/materials
- Ability to work in varying and adverse weather conditions
- Good hand-eye coordination and balance
