We currently have one vacancy in the Teen Program area;however, this recruitment may also establish an eligibility list for future vacancies across other program areas.

Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator and under the guidance of the Recreation Supervisor, this position plays a key role in coordinating and overseeing program operations, ensuring compliance with grant and contractual requirements, and supporting the successful delivery of community-based services.

This is a part-time position, averaging approximately 20 hours per week, offering valuable experience, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth while making a meaningful impact in the community.

These opportunities are classified as at-will, hourly/part-time positions, and do not include benefits. The average commitment is around 20 hours per week, with an annual cap of fewer than 1,000 hours.

WORK HOURSThis part-time position offers approximately 15–20 hours per week, general schedules are listed by program area below. Flexibility is required, as some evening and weekend shifts may be needed. Please note that schedules may vary seasonally based on program needs (e.g., summer hours when youth are out of school).
Community Services Specialist III Program Areas:

Teen Programs:

  • Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, lead the development, coordination and implementation of the Division’s teen programming at various parks and sites throughout the City.
  • Work hours: will typically be Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

After School Programs:

  • Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, provides direct oversight of multiple After School Programs in order to ensure programmatic, contractual, grant, City goals and deadlines are met while responding to community needs.
  • Work hours: willtypicallybe Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Sports Programs:
  • Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, provides direct oversight of Division run youth sports leagues, clinics, camps and other outdoor activities at various parks and sites throughout the City and surrounding area.
  • Work hours:willtypicallybe Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Senior Programs:
  • Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, lead the development, coordination and implementation of enrichment activities for seniors through the City’s two elderly nutrition programs.
  • Work hours: willtypicallybe Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Art Programs:
  • Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, provides direct oversight of Division run Art programs, camps and other related activities at various parks and sites throughout the City.
  • Work hours: will typicallybe Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalency required. Coursework in the fields of kinesiology, math, science, and language arts is highly desirable.
  • Two (2) years of paid experience in recreation, after-school programming, youth services, and/or community-based programs.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Act as a resource to staff in curriculum / activity development, outreach, participant recruitment, retention and assessing programmatic needs.
  • Conduct and/or attend regular meetings and training sessions that directly affect the development, planning, coordination and implementation of programs.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and foster new programs and best practices throughout all program locations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of staff trainings
  • Meet deadlines while maintaining high quality of work.
  • Ensure established emergency and safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, City officials, parents/guardians, community members, co-workers, volunteers and guests.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the City's image and mission statement are upheld.
  • Provides support in volunteer recruitment and ongoing coordination, including outreach, screening, tracking, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist in implementation of Department events, including required support during special events such as the Haunted House, Holiday at the Plaza, and Egg Hunt.
