PURPOSE OF POSITIONRespond to non-emergency calls regarding crimes not in progress (e.g. burglary, theft, and graffiti). Review, approve, or reject on-line citizen reports submitted via on-line reporting platform. Investigate hazardous, unsafe conditions and noise violations. Respond to crime scenes to assist. Investigate and respond to abandoned auto violations according to state and municipal regulations. Assist in neighborhood dispute resolution and departmental community policing activities. Assist the Concentrated Area Patrol (CAP) by performing municipal code enforcement, including the enforcement of park rules and regulations throughout the City's park system.
This is a non-sworn, part-time position.The duties listed below are only intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related and/or a logical assignment to the classification.
- Provide non-sworn staff support to the Police Department on a wide variety of programs, projects and services.
- Review, approve, or reject on-line citizen reports submitted via on-line criminal reporting platform and perform follow up.
- Respond to non-emergency calls regarding cold crimes (crimes not in progress) that are not major offenses. Take case information and complete report.
- Monitor reported abandoned vehicles and secure removal from streets. Handle crime scene processing, including photography, diagrams, fingerprint services and collection/processing of evidence.
- Patrol the Downtown Area and enforcement municipal code violations.
- Respond to inquiries and requests for information from the public. Work with Code Enforcement Specialist in addressing municipal code problems that require police assistance.
- Investigates property-related violations of City ordinances and graffiti reports, handles lost/found property issues, and animal complaints.
- Direct traffic and manage specific event situations.
- Alert City Police Department to the presence of hazardous situations.
- Performs as a member of the team; acts ethically and responsibly; supports and demonstrates engagement in diversity, inclusion and equity and maintains effective working relationships with others; demonstrates professionalism and respect in all workplace interactions.
- Participate in the department's fitness program per the collective bargaining agreement.
- Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance.

AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain proficiency by attending training conferences and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Testify in court if necessary. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, dependent on operational needs of the Department.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEEducation: Possession of a High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year's experience working with the public. This is a quasi-law enforcement position requiring adherence to state and local laws and vehicle statutes both in an on and off duty status and to the behavior required by the Ashland Police Department for this position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust undergo an in depth background investigation which will examine previous employment, previous contacts with police agencies and other aspects of the applicant's background as well as a psychological evaluation and pre-employment physical if an offer of employment is made.
License: Possession of a valid Oregon driver's license (or ability to obtain by date of hire) and acceptable driving record.
Certificate: Possession of a LEDS certificate, or the ability to obtain such certificate within 30 days of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications: Prior experience in a law enforcement setting, an Associates or Bachelors degree.
