Community Programs Intern

This position will assist in the implementation of the city's community events and programs such as Senior Connections, summer concerts, city-produced celebrations, festivals, etc. The incumbent will perform clerical and manual support for the community program team and requires the incumbent to be friendly, resourceful, and flexible to adapt to the needs of the team and events. Work involves set up and tear down for events, and working evenings or weekends when events are scheduled. This position is considered unclassified as a seasonal position.
  • Communicate daily, in a timely and professional manner, with staff and the public
  • Provide general administrative support including, but not limited to responding to phone calls and e-mails, mailings, set up and take down for events.
  • Coordinate small independent projects and errand running.
  • Attend events and ensure areas are safe and have the equipment required.
  • Troubleshoot problems in the assigned areas to deal with any issues on site.
  • The position will assist in the implementation of the city's community events including Senior Connections, summer concerts, city-produced celebrations, and festivals.
  • Work includes establishing effective relations between the City, various community organizations, volunteers, and sponsors.
  • May assist in creating promotions.
  • Assist with the coordination of events including planning, coordinating, and finalizing details.
  • May solicit and obtain survey data and evaluations from events/programs to measure results and seek suggestions for continued improvements.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
At least 18 years of age with a High school diploma or equivalent; Ohio driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the city's policy; and, must pass pre-employment drug test.

Ability to: be helpful; effectively communicate verbally and in writing with program participants, co-workers, supervisors and the general public; use independent judgment, common sense, and principals of influence and rational systems in the performance of tasks; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work under stressful conditions, to respond to spontaneous situations and balance priorities; maintain personal composure and tactfully handle difficult situations and interpret questions correctly; behave in a friendly, understanding, and helpful and professional manner with coworkers, supervisors and the general public; advise and apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations; explain, demonstrate and clarify to others within well-established policies, procedures and standards; drive a City vehicle; perform cashier duties accurately; work with frequent interruptions; handle confidential material in strict confidence; follow oral and written instructions; operate a variety of automated office machines including calculator, copier, computer, and telephone system; exert physical effort in light to moderate work involving lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs.; be able to stand, walk, or move frequently for several hours at a time in order to work events; work flexible hours outside regular business hours and on weekends to assist with community events.

Knowledge of: policies and procedures of the department and citywide.

Skill in: using office related software programs such as Microsoft Office and speciality software such as RecDesk; providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers; scheduling, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments, project tasks and activities; accurately recording and delivering information and meeting deadlines.
