The Leidos National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) Program is looking for a Communications Specialist/Speech Writer to support the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Office of Advanced Aviation Technologies (AAT). The Office of Advanced Aviation Technologies will be the designated point for activities related to the integration of advanced aviation technologies including Advance Air Mobility, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Supersonic aircraft in United States. The incumbent will craft compelling speeches for executive leadership, translating complex aviation concepts into clear, persuasive language for diverse audiences, including industry experts and government officials.

Specifically, this work directly supports the FAA’s safety mission and statutory requirements across multiple functional areas including safety oversight, security, and FAA Reauthorization implementation activities.

This position is remote.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Applies knowledge of flight procedures and aviation to communicate goals and objectives to targeted stakeholders across functional areas, private industry, and governmental agencies.
  • Informs and educates stakeholders, private industry, and the general public on safety, capacity, and efficiency improvements to the National Airspace (NAS), focusing on advanced technology and innovative operational concepts.
  • Partner with FAA and AAT on all aspects of flight operations projects and applications resulting from new technologies, ensuring effective communication of their impact on instrument flight operations.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders to ensure speeches align with organizational goals, enhancing engagement and inspiration at high-profile events and media appearances.
  • Ensure collateral is up-to-date and reflects the organization’s current policies.
  • Responsible for writing, editing, proofreading and/or providing writing support on non-technical and/or technical documents.
  • Conform to policies, guidelines, and procedures with adherence to plain language guidelines and communication best practices, and FAA Office of Communications (AOC) branding guidelines.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Verifiable, professional level written communication skills with prior experience with developing official documents.
  • Excellent verbal communication at various levels of management, including data presentations through charts, graphs and MS PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of branding concepts and writing for the web.
  • Web experience should include understanding and usage of social media (FB, Twitter, Blogs, etc.) and new media technologies and techniques.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office suite including SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 Compliance requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Security clearance.
  • Requires a BA degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or master’s with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • The selected candidate will have highly developed presentation skills, self-motivated and a proactive team player with excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in federal government contracting, FAA is a plus.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in Google Workspace.

Pay Range:Pay Range $82,550.00 - $149,225.00
