UPMC is hiring a Full-Time, Communications Specialist to support the office in Harrisburg.
Schedule: Night Shift 6pm-6am
12-hour rotating schedule with a 36-hour and 48-hour week.
Weekend and holiday availability is required for those that fall on your scheduled days.

Responsibilities:
- Reports injuries and completes the appropriate documentation, no matter how minor, to a supervisor promptly.
- Documents unusual operational matters in the dispatch record and /or special report system as warranted.
- Performs all assigned duties
- Collects and promptly processes request information including demographics, medical necessity, and other necessary information.
- Reflects a positive attitude to the customer in a high-stress environment at all times, with a clear understanding of who the customer is.
- Utilizes appropriate safety channels to report safety concerns and uses tools available to enhance a safe work environment
- Responds promptly and efficiently to requests for service (air and ground).
- Demonstrate competency in resident dispatch response procedure and documentation.
- Demonstrates skills, competencies, and judgment necessary to respond to requests by phone, radio, or other appropriate communication methods
- Demonstrates the ability to establish a rapport with customers; including the ability to create and sustain a positive relationship; regardless of circumstances or environment.
- Coordinate communications between transport teams, faculty physicians, and referring and receiving hospitals.
- Document and retrieve information/data on computer/network systems including interventions, and other pertinent patient care information on time.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Adheres to rules for scheduling, including schedule requests, minimum time, and availability.
- Seek guidance from the Communications Supervisor as needed for unusual operational circumstances or guidance regarding policy decisions.
- Experience as an EMT or Paramedic with an EMS agency or 911 Communications Center Experience Required.
- Positive interpersonal communication skills can work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and operate a computer.
- Must be willing to work various shifts as assigned and be available for regular on-call shifts.
- Emergency operations/dispatch center experience. (preferred)
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- A current and valid Paramedic in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or NREMT-P certification. (preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
- Act 34
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher (APCO)
- OR Certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher (IAED)
- OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- OR National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT)
- OR Paramedic
