The Firm
A fast-growing, private equity-backed power platform is seeking a Commercial Analytics Analyst to support the optimization and performance of a rapidly expanding portfolio of U.S. power generation assets.
The Role
This role sits at the intersection of wholesale power markets, natural gas fundamentals, and asset-level commercial decision-making. The team is building from the ground up, offering meaningful exposure across portfolio optimization, acquisitions support, and redevelopment strategy (including storage and data center-related opportunities).
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on, analytics-driven role supporting day-to-day commercial decision-making across operating assets, including:
- Supporting dispatch and bidding analytics in U.S. wholesale power markets
- Analyzing natural gas fundamentals including basis, transport, nominations, and delivered fuel costs
- Performing settlements validation and performance reconciliations
- Building and enhancing commercial tools (Excel-based) for tracking positions, exposures, and unit economics
- Monitoring market fundamentals (LMPs, congestion, heat rates, DA/RT spreads, ancillary services, capacity constructs)
- Supporting scenario analysis for asset planning, acquisitions, and redevelopment initiatives
- Working with large datasets using Excel and SQL/Python to automate analysis and improve decision-making
- Producing weekly and monthly performance reporting highlighting key drivers and commercial implications
The role offers exposure across merchant generation, capacity markets, environmental products, and portfolio optimization — within a lean, collaborative team environment.
Ideal Background
- 3–8 years of experience in U.S. power and/or natural gas markets
- Experience in generation dispatch, fuel supply analytics, real-time/EMA desks, or commercial operations
- Strong understanding of wholesale market structure and pricing drivers
- Experience working with or supporting natural gas–fired generation preferred
- Advanced Excel required; exposure to SQL/Python/BI tools is a plus
- Experience in PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE or other U.S. ISOs/RTOs preferred
- Ability to operate independently and make data-driven commercial recommendations
