3Z Brands is growing fast, and we're looking for a sharp, organized Collections Manager to own our end-to-end B2B collections process. This is an individual contributor role with real visibility: you'll present aging data to finance and sales leadership, recommend credit decisions, and be the internal authority on everything outstanding receivables.
Working in close collaboration with the Sales team, this position plays a critical role in balancing revenue growth with credit risk management. The Collections Manager evaluates customer creditworthiness, administers lines of credit, executes proactive collections outreach, and provides data-driven recommendations on bad debt reserves. This role does not include invoicing, cash application, or direct people management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
AR Aging Ownership & Reporting
- Maintain and own the AR Aging report as the single source of truth for all outstanding receivables.
- Prepare and distribute a formal weekly AR Aging report to finance and sales leadership, highlighting trends, risks, and recommended actions.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on all past-due account statuses and be prepared to present and defend aging data in review meetings.
- Monitor aging buckets (30/60/90/120+ days) continuously and escalate high-risk accounts appropriately.
Collections Activity
- Conduct proactive, professional collections calls and written communications to wholesale customers regarding outstanding balances.
- Develop and execute a structured collections cadence, prioritizing accounts based on dollar amount, aging bucket, and risk profile.
- Document all collections activity and customer communication in the company's ERP or collections system.
- Negotiate payment arrangements and payment plans where appropriate, within established company guidelines.
Credit Evaluation & Line of Credit Management
- Evaluate the creditworthiness of new and existing wholesale customers using credit applications, trade references, credit bureau reports, and payment history.
- Recommend and administer credit line assignments, increases, decreases, and suspensions in accordance with company credit policy.
- Conduct periodic credit reviews on high-exposure accounts and adjust credit terms as warranted.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date credit files for all active B2B accounts.
Bad Debt Reserves & Risk Management
- Identify accounts at elevated risk of non-payment and formally recommend adjustments to the bad debt reserve to management.
- Provide supporting data and analysis to substantiate reserve recommendations.
- Collaborate with management on decisions regarding account write-offs and escalated collections actions (e.g., third-party agency referral, legal).
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with the Sales team to communicate account hold statuses, credit decisions, and collections risks that may impact customer relationships or new orders.
- Balance collections assertiveness with relationship sensitivity, leveraging Sales insights to inform approach on key accounts.
- Coordinate with the AR team on issues that impact collections (e.g., disputed invoices), without owning invoicing or cash application functions.
- Participate in credit review meetings and provide regular reporting to finance leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in commercial B2B collections, AR, or credit management.
- Demonstrated experience working within an AR team and collaborating closely with a Sales organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, aging analysis, data formatting).
- Hands-on experience managing an AR Aging report and presenting aging data to leadership.
- Familiarity with credit evaluation tools and processes, including trade references and commercial credit bureaus (e.g., Dun & Bradstreet, Experian Business).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, confident collections approach.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience in manufacturing, consumer goods, wholesale distribution, or a related industry.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
- Experience with bad debt reserve recommendations and documentation.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- NACM (National Association of Credit Management) certification or coursework is a plus.
