The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Code Enforcement Officer to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Community Development department. The Code Enforcement Officer earns a competitive hourly salary of $21.83-$23.17/hour, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A CODE ENFORCEMENT

This role will primarily emphasize responsibilities related to code, investigations, and regulation.

Job Summary

The purpose of this class within the organization is to ensure the safety and health of the citizens of Pearland by vigilantly enforcing the standards established by the ordinances approved by the City Council, State Laws, and International Code Council volumes as adopted in regard to dangerous buildings, accumulation of trash and debris, illegal dumping, vehicle violations, and other general nuisance violations.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential Functions

  • Receives and responds to citizen complaints; enters, processes, and acquires data for complaints, research, and investigations.
  • Investigates alleged violations of city and state laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations related to environmental hazards and public health nuisances.
  • Conducts communication by correspondence, phone, email, and or in person regarding complaints and provides solutions to obtian complaince.
  • Assists in preparing case reports for court and administrative proceedings; testifies in court and at proceedings when necessary.
  • Works with and educates the general public with regards to enforcement of laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Maintains all case records and related documents.
  • Performs data entry on computer or other devices.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience as a State of Texas Certified Code Enforcement Officer

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Valid Texas Driver's License

TDLR Code Enforcement Officer Registration, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment

Preferred:

  • Texas Code Enforcement Officer II certificate
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years of experience in Code Enforcement
  • Bilinugal/Spanish
