Civil/Structural Engineer - Nuclear and Defense Fabrication
We are seeking an experienced Civil / Structural Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering complex solutions for high-integrity, hazardous, industrial, nuclear, and government environments.
This role offers the opportunity to work on safety-critical engineering projects, supporting the design, analysis, and delivery of engineered systems, equipment, and facilities. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing across the full project lifecycle from concept through testing and commissioning.
The Role
The Civil/Structural Engineer will be responsible for structural design, analysis, and technical documentation in support of engineered systems and facilities.
You will develop structural solutions that meet project requirements, regulatory standards, and operational safety needs, while coordinating with mechanical, systems, and project engineers to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and analysis for:
- Steel structures
- Equipment supports
- Lifting structures
- Concrete structures
- Foundations and anchorage systems
- Evaluate structural loads including:
- Dead, live, seismic, wind, thermal, and equipment loads
- Produce calculations, analysis reports, and technical documentation
- Author and review calculation packages and design deliverables
- Participate in all project phases from conceptual design to commissioning
- Support 30%, 60%, 90%, and 100% design reviews
- Review customer specifications and design documents for compliance and constructability
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate structural elements into wider project designs
- Use engineering judgment to simplify analysis and optimize design efficiency
- Develop solid models using Autodesk Inventor
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, automation, and design optimization
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience
- Strong background in:
- Structural analysis
- Seismic loading
- Steel and concrete structures
- PE license, or ability to obtain
- Experience using engineering analysis tools such as:
- RISA
- STAAD
- ANSYS
- SAP2000
- Knowledge of structural codes, engineering standards, and drawing principles including GD&T
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience in nuclear, defense, or other highly regulated industries
- Familiarity with:
- AISC
- ACI
- ASCE
- ASME
- NQA-1
- Knowledge of nuclear design and manufacturing procedures
- Experience working under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 quality programs
- Understanding of relevant EH&S legislation
- Strong communication, collaboration, and independent working skills
