Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Estimator with a strong background in road construction, asphalt paving, milling, and striping to support multiple operating companies under the Southern Paving & Milling group.
This is a production-driven role, not a desk-only position. The right candidate understands how work is actually built and can translate plans into accurate, competitive bids. This is a hands-on construction role. Candidates must understand field operations, not just office processes.
Responsibilities:
• Perform detailed quantity take-offs for FDOT, municipal, and private work
• Build accurate cost estimates for paving, milling, grading, and striping
• Review plans, specs, and bid documents
• Coordinate with operations to validate production rates and pricing
• Identify risk, gaps, and constructability issues before bid
• Assist in bid strategy and final numbers
• Occasional site visits to verify conditions
Requirements:
• 5+ years experience in heavy civil / road construction estimating
• Strong understanding of:
• Asphalt paving
• Milling operations
• Striping & MOT
• Proficiency in takeoff software (Active Takeoff, B2W, etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specs without hand-holding
• Field experience is a major plus (foreman/operator background preferred)
