Overview:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for leading and optimizing United Vision Logistics’ operating platform across transportation, terminal operations, fleet management, dispatch, maintenance, logistics services, and supporting operational functions. The COO partners closely with the President and senior management team to translate strategy into disciplined execution, ensuring safe, compliant, scalable, and profitable operations across the organization. This role drives operational excellence while balancing growth, cost control, customer service, regulatory requirements, and risk management within the transportation and logistics industry.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Operational Strategy & Execution
- Lead the development and execution of operational strategies that support short‑ and long‑term business objectives, including organic growth and service expansion.
- Translate enterprise strategy into actionable operating plans, KPIs, and performance targets across terminals, fleet, and logistics operations.
- Ensure consistent execution of operating standards across all locations while allowing appropriate regional flexibility.
Transportation & Logistics Operations
- Oversee daily operations across fleet management, dispatch, load planning, brokerage, terminal operations, and maintenance.
- Optimize asset utilization, operating efficiency, cost structure, and service reliability.
- Partner with Business Development to align operational capacity with customer commitments and growth initiatives.
Safety Culture, Compliance & Risk Awareness
- Promote and reinforce a strong, enterprise‑wide safety culture by embedding safety expectations into leadership behaviors, operational decisions, and performance management.
- Collaborate with Safety, Legal, and Compliance leaders to ensure operational practices support regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
- Ensure operational strategies align with DOT, FMCSA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Financial & Performance Management
- Collaborate with the executive team on operating budgets, capital planning, and cost‑management initiatives.
- Own operational performance metrics, including service levels, productivity, utilization, and operating efficiency drivers.
- Drive accountability through data‑driven performance management and continuous improvement disciplines.
Technology, Systems & Scalability
- Partner with IT leadership to guide operational technology strategy, including TMS, fleet telematics, safety systems, and data analytics tools.
- Champion technology‑enabled solutions that improve scalability, visibility, safety outcomes, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure systems, processes, and controls support growth while maintaining operational discipline.
Growth, Expansion & Strategic Opportunities
- Partner with the executive leadership team to identify, evaluate, and execute growth opportunities through organic expansion, new service offerings, and strategic partnerships.
- Participate in screening, diligence, and evaluation of potential mergers and acquisitions, with a focus on operational fit, scalability, cultural alignment, and risk profile.
- Support post‑acquisition integration efforts to ensure operational alignment, performance accountability, and realization of expected synergies.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, develop, and mentor senior operational leaders across the organization.
- Build bench strength and succession plans for critical operational roles.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Position Requirements:
- Extensive progressive leadership experience in transportation, logistics, or a related asset‑intensive, regulated industry.
- Demonstrated success leading large‑scale, multi‑location operations with strong financial and operational performance.
- Proven experience establishing KPIs and driving execution through disciplined operating rhythms.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and change‑management capabilities.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
Compensation:
- Annual discretionary bonus of 60% + based upon employee and company performance.
