Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Location: Houston, Texas (In-Office)
Reports To: Managing Attorney
Salary: Base: $125k - $150k
ABOUT THE FIRM
Scott M. Brown & Associates is a growing family law firm serving clients across multiple Texas markets. The firm is known for high-quality legal work, strong client advocacy, and a strong founder-led vision.
With significant growth already underway, the firm is seeking its first Chief Operating Officer to bring structure, accountability, and operational excellence to the organization and help scale the business deliberately and sustainably.
ROLE OVERVIEW
This is a high-impact leadership role for a true operator and builder. The COO will be responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the firm, overseeing all departments and department heads, and ensuring the business operates efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with the firm’s growth goals.
This role is not advisory. It is hands-on and execution-focused.
The COO will serve as the integrator to the Managing Attorney (visionary)—translating vision into execution, driving accountability across the organization, and ensuring that priorities are implemented effectively and consistently.
The ideal candidate has experience scaling small to mid-sized professional services organizations, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable taking ownership of outcomes.

• Create and document systems that allow the firm to grow without sacrificing quality or client experience
• Continuously identify inefficiencies and implement improvements
Firm Growth & Scalability
• Partner with the Managing Attorney to execute the firm’s growth strategy
• Build operational infrastructure to support increased case volume, staffing, and potential expansion
• Help transition the firm from founder-reliant to system-driven
People Leadership & Structure
• Oversee organizational structure, roles, and reporting lines
• Partner on hiring, onboarding, and performance management
• Ensure each department is properly staffed, trained, and accountable

• Experience in professional services (law firm experience strongly preferred)
• Track record of building systems, processes, and teams in a growth environment
• Previous role as COO, Head of Operations, Director of Operations, or similar
Traits That Matter Most
