Collaborates and cooperates with all department leaders and medical staff to develop department policies, protocols, guidelines, and other practice tools as needed for quality patient care and regulatory compliance.
Develop programs and initiatives to maintain the organization and service line to be on the forefront of oncology care. This includes development and support of Multi-Disciplinary Groups, Survivorship Programs, Genetic Counseling Programs, Palliative Care and Hospice Services, Patient Navigation, Symptom Management and other programs yet to be created. Establish, in conjunction with other hospital personnel, detailed written goals and objectives for the Cancer Center and a strategic plan for the development and operations.
Educates and directs medical staff, others in medical staff leadership roles, and health care professionals in development of quality metrics to assess physician performance, identify potential risks, and find ways to mitigate risks. Works collaboratively with all contracted and employed physician groups to develop a quality and metric based peer review process that aligns with the goals of the organization.
Engage community leaders and develop and present at speaking engagements and community events that evolve around the organization and service line. Included with this is involvement and promoting of community outreach screening and education programs.
Involved and responsible to assist in the development of oncology based multispecialty physician committees, joint multispecialty administration/physician committee, and development and structure of a high performing oncology service line. Monitor, review and participate in all quality assurance and professional review programs of the hospitals Medical Staff relevant to the operation of the Cancer Center.
Involved in strategic planning with the department of Institutional Advancement to attain funding from charitable donations and grant funding opportunities to grow and support the operation of the Cancer Center.
Oversight and responsibility for strategic direction, development, and growth of the Research program. Primary focus is to improve protocol options, accruals, and financial viability.
Provide clinical oversight of all patient care activities with a focus on best practice quality measures that are not limited to NCI Community Center Designation, ACR accreditation, NAPBC accreditation, QOPI certification, and Pathways adherence. Development of best practices to ensure the organization is reaching quality metric standards for Value Based Purchasing and Value Based Reimbursement.
Provide guidance, leadership, direction, advisory support and immediate supervision of all providers (CHMG physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) within the Oncology Service Line. Involvement in all clinical recruitment and hiring aspects for the oncology program. Facilitate adoption of evidenced-based clinical practices, appropriate order sets, new practice models for the delivery of care by the Oncology Physicians and ancillary staff. The Medical Director shall use his/her best efforts to work toward resolving misunderstandings, disputes/disagreements among physicians and work toward fostering productive working relationships.
Responsible and accountable for oncology service line operational and financial performance. Develop short and long range strategic plans, identifying specific goals and objectives that must be accomplished. Involved and responsible for operational and capital budgeting planning and request process.
Education
Required: MD or DO degree required
Preferred: Masters, MBA, MHA in addition to MD or DO degree
Experience
Required: 5+ years in a Medical Director or Chief of Oncology role or 7+ combined years in Oncology as a Physician Administrator, Practice President, Physician Executive or Medical Director roles.
Preferred:
10+ years in an Medical Director of Chief of Oncology role
Licensure/Certification/Listing
Required: MD | Physician Current North Carolina license to practice medicine. Board certified in area of specialty.
