Chief Information Officer / Chief Technology Officer (CIO/CTO) -Pharma

Overview:

  • We are seeking a strategic and execution-focused CIO/CTO to lead enterprise technology, digital transformation, and innovation initiatives for a growing pharmaceutical organization based in Boston.
  • This role will drive the alignment of IT and business strategy, ensuring scalable, secure, and compliant technology solutions that support R&D, clinical operations, manufacturing, and commercial functions.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Define and execute the company’s overall IT and digital strategy aligned with business objectives Lead enterprise systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data governance initiatives.
  • Drive digital transformation across R&D, clinical trials, regulatory, manufacturing, and commercial operations Oversee implementation and optimization of platforms such as ERP, LIMS, CTMS, CRM, and data analytics tools Ensure compliance with FDA, GxP, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Build and lead high-performing technology and data teams, including engineering, IT operations, and cybersecurity Establish and manage IT budgets, vendor relationships, and technology roadmaps Champion data strategy, AI/ML initiatives, and advanced analytics to accelerate drug development and decision-making
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and board members on technology-driven growth strategies


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s/MBA preferred) 12–18+ years of experience in IT/technology leadership, with significant experience in pharmaceutical or life sciences Proven experience as a CIO, CTO, or senior technology leader in regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of pharma value chain: R&D, clinical, regulatory, manufacturing, and commercialization
  • Experience with GxP compliance, FDA regulations, and data integrity standards Demonstrated success in digital transformation and enterprise system implementations
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), cybersecurity frameworks, and data architecture Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and strategic thinking skills


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience scaling technology in mid-size to large pharmaceutical organizations
  • Exposure to biotech innovation, precision medicine, or AI-driven drug discovery
