About the Role

The Chief Engineer is the hands-on technical leader responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a 1.2M sq. ft. office building in Washington, DC. This role oversees all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems while leading a team of maintenance mechanics in delivering exceptional building performance, tenant satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. The Chief Engineer plays a critical role in preventive maintenance execution, capital planning, staff development, and day-to-day troubleshooting of complex building systems. Hospitality experience and DC 3rd certification preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform diagnostic and repairs on building systems
  • Perform HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety system repairs
  • Prepare work schedules
  • Maintain records and prepare required reports
  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Hours: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Salary: $100,000 + depending on license/experience

You Should Have

The Chief Engineershall possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Experience 7-10 years in similar size facility and complexity
  • Able to pass a government background check
  • DC 3rd Class license preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of engineering and building systems: Chillers, Cooling Towers, AHU's, VAV's, FCU's
  • Ability to plan, organize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service/verbal/written communication skills
