Trillium Professional is hiring a Chief Engineer – Critical Facilities to serve as the top technical authority for a hyperscale, AI-driven data center in Phoenix. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of all critical infrastructure systems.
You’ll play a key role across both construction/commissioning and ongoing operations, ensuring seamless transition into a fully stable, high-availability environment.
What You’ll Do
Lead Site Technical Operations
- Act as the primary technical authority for all mechanical, electrical, and control systems
- Provide real-time direction during incidents and abnormal conditions
- Uphold engineering standards, documentation, and operational discipline
Own Critical Infrastructure Performance
Oversee and optimize systems including:
- Electrical: UPS, batteries, switchgear, PDUs/RPPs
- Power Generation: Generators, ATS/STS, fuel systems
- Cooling: Chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, pumps/valves
- Controls: BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLC systems
- Life Safety Systems
Ensure stability during load transfers, maintenance, and fault scenarios
Drive Incident Response & Reliability
- Lead infrastructure incidents as Incident Commander
- Troubleshoot, stabilize, and restore operations quickly
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions
- Proactively identify risks and improve system reliability
Support Build & Commissioning
- Partner with construction teams on startup and commissioning
- Validate system readiness and oversee turnover to operations
- Review commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation
- Manage vendors performing work in live environments
Own Procedures & Documentation
- Develop and maintain MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs
- Ensure strict adherence to procedures and risk controls
- Maintain accurate:
- One-line diagrams
- System schematics
- Equipment histories & maintenance logs
Lead & Develop the Engineering Team
- Mentor Lead Engineers and site engineering staff
- Provide technical training and guidance
- Support onboarding, staffing plans, and shift coverage
- Foster a safety-first, high-performance culture
Ensure Safety & Compliance
- Enforce standards across OSHA, NFPA, NEC
- Lead LOTO and high-risk work protocols
- Support audits (ISO, SOC2, regulatory)
- Drive continuous safety improvements
What You Bring
Required
- 7–10+ years in data centers, critical facilities, or MEP environments
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- UPS, generators, switchgear
- Cooling systems (chillers, CRAH/CRAC)
- BMS / EPMS / SCADA / PLC controls
- Proven experience in incident response & escalation leadership
- Ability to read one-line diagrams and technical schematics
- Experience developing/executing MOPs, SOPs, EOPs
- Strong leadership and decision-making under pressure
- Ability to operate in a 24/7 critical environment
Preferred
- Trade license (Electrical, HVAC, Mechanical, Stationary Engineer)
- Hyperscale / colocation / Tier III–IV data center experience
- OEM training (Schneider Electric, Cummins, Caterpillar, Trane, Liebert)
- Experience with construction, commissioning, or expansions
- Exposure to AI/GPU cooling (liquid cooling, direct-to-chip, rear-door)
