Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Hours: 40 Hours Per Week


Job Location and Hours

Our organization is located at 1200 Old Henderson Road, Columbus, OH 43220. Normal work hours are

8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. After an initial 90 calendar day training period in the office,

this position can be hybrid, with at least two days being in the office each week. Some additional hours

outside of regular business hours for special events and fundraising.

At Cancer Support Community we provide emotional and social support, education, and resources to

people impacted by cancer (including patients, survivors, family members, caregivers, and friends) to help

them manage their cancer journey and achieve better health outcomes and improved quality of life. We

offer more than 70 monthly evidence-based programs, all at no cost. Our mission is to uplift &

strengthen people impacted by cancer by providing support, fostering compassionate communities, and

Position Summary

The Chief Development O􀆯icer (CDO) serves as the senior leader responsible for all aspects of

CSCCO’s fundraising, development strategy, philanthropic partnerships, and revenue generation. The

CDO designs and executes a comprehensive multi-year development strategy to ensure sustainability

and growth aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic plan.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the CDO is a key member of the leadership team and works closely with

the Board of Directors, community partners, staff, volunteers and donors to advance philanthropic

support. The CDO oversees development staff and contractors, leads all fundraising initiatives, and

upholds strong, mission-centered stewardship practices.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including annual giving, major gifts, institutional giving, planned giving, events, and corporate partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Board to align fundraising strategy with organizational goals.
  • Present regular development reports, projections, and performance metrics to leadership and the Board.
  • Identify new revenue opportunities that ensure long-term organizational sustainability.
  • Fundraising & Relationship Management
  • Lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Manage a portfolio of high-capacity prospects, advancing them through a structured moves management process.
  • Ensure best practices in donor stewardship, retention strategy, prospect research, and database management.
  • Work with the CEO to support Board engagement in fundraising activities.

Team Leadership & Infrastructure

  • Supervise development staff, consultants, and volunteers; establish clear performance goals.
  • Build a strong, collaborative culture within the development team and across the organization.
  • Oversee development operations, including CRM/database optimization, donor communications, and gift processing.
  • Collaborate with marketing/communications staff or partners to ensure consistent messaging and strong donor-facing materials.

Events & Community Engagement

  • Provide executive leadership for annual fundraising events, campaigns, and partner-led initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at community events, speaking engagements, and donor gatherings.
  • Strengthen relationships with healthcare partners, civic leaders, corporate allies, and community groups to expand organizational reach.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including major gifts and gift planning.
  • Proven track record of securing five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Experience in nonprofit leadership, preferably with health, human services, or mission-driven organizations.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and ability to lead organization-wide development initiatives.
  • Strong relationship builder with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with donor CRM systems, analytics, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-functioning teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Passion for CSCCO’s mission and commitment to equitable, compassionate support for individuals impacted by cancer.

Working Conditions

  • Some evenings and weekends required for events or donor engagements.
  • Local travel expected; occasional regional travel possible.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications

Benefits

PTO accrual per year: 18 days

QSEHRA (Qualified Small Employer Healthcare Reimbursement Arrangement) which allows small

employers to provide non-taxed reimbursement of certain health care expenses, like health insurance

and co-insurance premiums, to employees who maintain minimum essential coverage. Any insurance

plan that meets the Affordable Care Act requirement for having health coverage is eligible for

reimbursement. Available on day one of employment.
