Description
Our client is seeking an experienced IT Change Manager to own, govern, and mature the enterprise IT Change Management capability. This is not an organizational change or communications role, it is a hands‑on ITSM governance role with formal CAB authority.
The Change Manager will be the final approval authority for IT changes, responsible for enforcing policy, improving process maturity, and holding technical teams accountable to defined standards. This role operates in a federated IT environment, where governance is centralized but delivery teams are distributed across applications, infrastructure, and operations.
This is a build-and-stabilize role in a low‑maturity environment. The successful candidate must be comfortable enforcing standards, managing resistance, and driving improvement without direct line authority.
Key Responsibilities:
- Change Governance & CAB Leadership
- Own and govern the end‑to‑end IT Change Management process, including policy, standards, SOPs, and approval workflows
- Chair the weekly Change Advisory Board (CAB) and facilitate structured, disciplined change review discussions
- Act as the final approval authority for changes, with escalation to senior leadership where required
- Ensure all changes include impact assessments, risk analysis, backout plans, and required approvals
- Identify and address unauthorized or non‑conforming changes, including documentation of non‑conformance
- Process Maturity & Continuous Improvement
- Lead the uplift of Change Management maturity from crawl → walk within the year
- Review existing change processes and recommend pragmatic improvements aligned to ITIL best practice
- Balance governance rigor with delivery needs standards without bureaucracy
- Drive adoption of consistent change behaviors across all IT teams
- Cross‑Functional Accountability
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, operations, and security teams to ensure compliance
- Enforce process adherence without direct people management authority
- Escalate systemic non‑compliance through governance forums and leadership reporting
- Reporting & Executive Visibility
- Produce change performance reporting for IT leadership (e.g., failed changes, emergency changes, trends)
- Identify root causes of change failures and lead corrective actions
- Represent Change Management in IT governance and leadership forums
- Team Leadership
- Hire, mentor, and lead a Change Coordinator once onboarded
- Provide quality assurance and coaching on change submissions and process usage
