Job Description: Operating Room Technician (CVOR / Cardiothoracic)

Location: Johnson City, NY 13790

Start Date: 05/11/2026

Duration: 13 weeks (possible extension)

Hours: 40 hours/week (8-hour or 10-hour shifts, typically starting 6–7 AM)

Schedule: Monday–Friday day rotation

Call: Up to 3 call shifts per week (8–16 hours each)

Weekend: 1 working weekend every 4 weeks with call coverage


Pay: Blended rate $61.42/hr (includes $2,457 weekly gross ( $1,337 stipend)


Position Summary

Seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA, BLS required) with strong CVOR and cardiothoracic experience. The OR Technician will support surgical procedures by maintaining sterile technique, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain strict aseptic and sterile technique throughout surgical procedures
  • Assist surgeons with gowning, gloving, draping, and instrument handling
  • Anticipate surgical needs including instruments, sutures, and equipment
  • Maintain organized sterile field and proper instrument placement
  • Perform accurate counts of sponges, needles, instruments, and supplies
  • Prepare OR setup based on preference cards and case requirements
  • Ensure proper handling, cleaning, and care of surgical instruments
  • Support safe surgical environment and identify potential hazards
  • Assist with retracting, suctioning, and specimen handling as directed
  • Ensure efficient OR turnover between cases
  • Participate in rotating call schedule
  • Support and mentor new OR staff when needed


Required Skills & Experience

  • CVOR experience required
  • Cardiothoracic surgery experience (CABG, valve replacements, VATS, robotic chest procedures)
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique and OR protocols
  • Ability to work in high-pressure surgical environments


Certifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) – Required
  • BLS Certification – Required
