Overview

This role supports new-build residential projects by performing basic finish carpentry and trim work in and around the Rockford area. You will work directly alongside the company owner as a trusted right hand, traveling between multiple job sites, cutting and hanging trim, and ensuring each home is completed with high-quality finishes. Responsibilities

  • Install finish trim in new construction homes (cutting and hanging trim).
  • Travel between job sites within 25–30 miles of Rockford.
  • Work on projects that may last one day or several days.
  • Use hand and power tools safely to measure, cut, and install materials.
  • Read a tape measure accurately.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work throughout the day.
  • Keep the job site clean and complete cleanup after each job.
  • Stand, bend, move, and climb ladders during the workday.
  • Be willing to learn and improve trim and finish carpentry skills.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of construction experience.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Comfortable with physical labor and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to learn how to use saws, nail guns, and other tools.
  • Own basic tools (hammer, tape measure, utility knife, screwdriver set).
  • Familiar with common hand and power tools.
  • Trade school or vocational training is a plus.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between local job sites.

Work Environment

  • Work takes place on new-build residential homes, primarily during daytime hours starting around 7:00 a.m. and typically ending around 3:30 p.m., with some fluctuation based on workload and project needs.
  • Trim work usually occurs near the end of the construction process, so most work is performed inside the structure, offering some protection from the elements, although there is generally no air conditioning or heat.
  • The role requires frequent movement between job sites within about 25 miles of Rockford, and daily tasks involve standing, walking, bending, lifting materials up to 50 pounds, and working on ladders for extended periods.
  • You will regularly use hand tools and power tools in an active construction environment, with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and maintaining an organized work area.

This is a Contract position based out of Rockford, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
